n Designtone, regardless if you are a junior or a senior designer, the responsibility and task given to the designers are the same. They are tasked to tackle a project from inception to completion. The difference between a junior and senior is only the scale and complexity of a project. By this approach Joe Chan strongly belief that it is the best way for nurturing and building a balanced design team for the experience and inexperienced and it goes strength in strength with one another for collaboration and team work in the design team, ultimately a successful deliverance of a project. There is a lot of education and re-education process conducted in-house, where design processes taught during formative education is relive in the design studio. No shortcut nor cliché design is approved as oppose to a well thought design concept that has richness in content, layers of thought process and value add to a clients brief.
ON NURTURING THE DESIGN TEAM This is strongly enforced as Joe strongly wants the young and old designers, clients or layman to understand that interior designing is different from interior decorators. Interior decoration is part of interior design but never the opposite. Henceforth, the design thought process shall not be eliminated, not just doing mere aesthetically pleasing interior but also with all the underlining meaning. Although this is time consuming and mind taxing, Designtone continue to pursue this philosophy in their practice and appreciation toward this approach has been well received by their supportive clients. More importantly the designers are always thinker first, then doer.
