tanley’s Bistro in Canton has only been open since May, but is already making its mark on the Canton food scene. Serving quintessential French cuisine and wine – think classics like molten camembert, succulent steak, crisp crème brûlée, traditional cassoulet and navarin of lamb, seasonal vegetarian tartiflette and must-have dauphinoise potatoes – it’s becoming a firm favourite with the locals.Owner Stanley has been in the hospitality trade for around 18 years, with his passion for fine French cuisine first igniting while he was at catering school in Rennes in France. Stanley came to the UK in 2004, and soon made his home in Wales, managing restaurants Le Gallois, Garçon French Brasserie and Pier 64 in Penarth. He became so attached to Wales, in fact, that when he returned to France for nine months he found he missed Wales so much he felt compelled to return. He says, “I felt I needed to come back, doing what I love in a place I love, and after six years at Pier 64 the opportunity came to go it alone and so, Stanleys Bistro was born!” At Stanleys the menu changes every three to four months to include locally sourced seasonal ingredients locally sourced. “We’re combining the tastes of both Wales and France!,” says
“WE’RE COMBINING THE TASTES OF BOTH WALES AND FRANCE” Stanley. “The most popular dish on the menu has to be the beef medallions served with rosti potato, fricassee of mushroom and spinach with a red wine jus.” Stanleys is offering a three-course Christmas party menu for £29.95. On á la carte menu starters cost from £5.95, mains from £14.95 and desserts from £5.95 . A lunch menu is also available – two courses for £ 12.95 and three courses for £15.95, and there is a three course Sunday lunch for £20.95. ■
