ARTS

ONE TO ONE

JESS PIGOTT

The painter and mixed media artist, who has just completed a striking wall mural at No.15 Great Pulteney Street – Bath’s newest boutique hotel – says, “I left my London studio because it became unaffordable, and since moving to Bath I’ve found the support of a growing creative community and a place to work in a city that I love.”

BERYL DESMOND

Using acrylic paint on canvas, wooden panel or paper, Beryl responds to structures in the landscape with which she feels a connection. “My work is based on the thematic continuum and investigates the relationship between architecture and space,” she says. “44AD offers me and the whole community an exciting and unique opportunity to create, exhibit and experience the contemporary art scene.”

ELAINE BREEN

By using a variety of materials and found objects, Elaine’s work concentrates on the emotional investment in the physical. Her art – from installations to illustrations – explores ways of seeing, where the emphasis is placed on vulnerability. She describes 44AD as “a wonderful self-funded space which meets the needs of the artistic community and far beyond”.

SVETA ANTONOVA

She’s intrigued by the paradox of the universality and restrictiveness of language, and she uses this as inspiration for her art. “Constantly fed by my theoretical research in linguistics and media, my practice explores sculpture, installation, performance, sound and computer linguistics.”

ROBERT LUZAR

“Through the window of my studio at 44AD I hear delightful sounds: people, songs, the bells of Bath Abbey – all sounds that colour everything I create in the studio, and I enjoy giving back to audiences in Bath and beyond,” says the artist and writer. 44AD, 4 Abbey Street, Bath; www.44ad.net
