MILDRED HARRELL Mildred Celest Harrell, 86, of Mechanicsville, co-owner of the original Carolina BarB-Que, departed this life May 13, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lemuel and Henrietta Henry; two sisters, Cecil Anderson and Edna Charity; and brother, Lemuel Henry Jr. She leaves to cherish her memory a loving and devoted husband, Thomas “T.C.” Harrell; HARRELL devoted daughter and granddaughter, Marilyn Harrell and Kiersten Jefferson; stepson, Linwood Lancaster (Betty); two other grandchildren, three greatgrandchildren, a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 18, 2017, at the Rock Hill Baptist Church at 4271 Rockhill Road in Mechanicsville, with the Rev. Phillip Knight officiating. Interment followed in Roselawn Memory Gardens. March Funeral Home at 2110 East Laburnum Avenue was in charge of arrangements.

EMILY HIGGINS Emily Armistead Peyton Higgins, widow of Dr. William Harrison Higgins Jr., and daughter of Emily Armistead and Robert Eden Peyton

Jr., died on May 18, 2017. She was born on September 6, 1919, in Richmond. She graduated from St. Catherine’s School and attended Sweet Briar College. Mrs. Higgins was a lifelong member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. She had an abiding interest in Hollywood Cemetery and served on its board. Mrs. Higgins also served on the board of The Virginia Home and on the Richmond Committee of Stratford Hall, and was a charter member of the Council of the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. She was predeceased by her grandson, Philip Wagener Higgins of Richmond, and her brothers, Robert Eden Peyton and Armistead Peyton. She is survived by her children, William Harrison Higgins IV and his wife, Susan, of Hanover County, Elizabeth Armistead Higgins of Concord, Massachusetts, Emily Higgins Kilvert and her husband, Charles, of Nantucket, Massachusetts; seven grandchildren, Peyton Higgins Miller of Bridgewater, Patricia Higgins Clarke and William Harrison Higgins V of Richmond, William Cole Congram of Watertown, Massachusetts, Margaret Peyton Kilvert, Charles Alexander Kilvert IV and Marshall Higgins Kilvert of Nantucket, Massachusetts; nine great-grandchildren, Noah, Ben and Rye Miller, Grace, Philip, Betsy and Andrew Clarke, and Emily and William Higgins. She also is survived by her late brothers’ children, Mary Peyton Cortright of Fort Mill, South Carolina, Nancy Lee Peyton Gresham of Richmond, Emily Peyton Cech of New York, New York, Gay Tredway Peyton and Eliza Peyton Leitch of Richmond, and Armistead Peyton Jr. of Kirkland, Washington.
