Bridgewater Dean’s List

Tyler Goss of Mechanicsville, a junior majoring in philosophy and religion and mathematics, has been named to the Dean’s List for the spring semester at Bridgewater College. Students on the Dean’s List have attained a 3.4 or better grade point average of a possible 4.0. Any student who earned all As for a perfect 4.0 grade point average for the 15-week semester is identified with an asterisk by his/her name.

Emory & Henry Dean’s List Sarah Jenkins of Mechanicsville has been named to the Dean’s List at Emory & Henry College for the spring 2011 semester. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must achieve at least a 3.6 (A minus) grade point average and must have completed at least 12 credit hours of course work during the semester.

Symposium attendee Deane S. Flickinger, the son of Jeff and Kathy Flickinger of Mechanicsville and a student at Lynchburg College, received a scholarship to attend the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge 50th Anniversary Symposium in January at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, W.Va. About 150 attendees listened to several important conservation historians and conservation leaders, including former President Jimmy Carter and field biologist Dr. George Schaller. During the symposium, Lynchburg College students were given the opportunity to learn about the impor-

tance of the Arctic refuge and the untouched ecosystems that reside there. Flickinger said, “The fact that there were scholarships given to only a handful of students by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service National Conservation Training Center made the opportunity even greater. For four days we were able to interact with some of the world’s top players in conservation, politics and history. I took away a much better understanding of the Arctic refuge and how important a place it truly is to our earth.”
