Due to her mastery of many skills, willingness to apply herself and ask questions when she doesn’t understand something, Monique McMackle is nominated by her teacher for Outstanding Student. In addition to being organized and independent in her class work, Monique works in the front office at Atlee High School. She answers the call box to admit visitors to AHS, sorts and delivers mail. She is a selfstarter, acting when she sees a need and is a valued member of the office team. At the Raider Gallery (school’s cookie business) Monique has excellent customer service skills. She is an enthusiastic salesperson, makes change independently, counts the money from sales and assists

with the bank deposit. The qualities Monique demonstrates in educational and social environments – honesty, leadership skills, superior work ethic, responsible, positive attitude, and taking initiative make her a worthy recipient of the Raby Outstanding Teacher Award. Teacher and nominator Doris Hodges wrote: “It is a joy to teach Monique.” Raby Recognition Reward Award for Teachers “Leah Acors educates her students with disabilities so that they are on the pathway from disability to ability,” Ellen Bennett, nominator, grandmother and retired teacher, wrote. With two grandchildren taught by Acors for the past four years at Washington-Henry

Elementary School, Bennett has seen the positive effects of Acors’ teaching excellence. Bennett’s grandson has become an independent reader because of Acors’ teaching methods and her granddaughter’s self-esteem was boosted greatly by Acors. She made Monae feel wanted, taught her to write and ensured that she went on school trips. Bennett has seen the educational foundation that Acors’ has built in her grandchildren. Because of her outstanding and consistent communication with parents there is continuity of work from school to home daily. “Ms. Acors is a wonderful teacher who is highly thought of by parents; she is very deserving of the Raby Outstanding Teacher Award”, said Jennifer Lenz, principal of Washington Henry Elementary School.
