Inspirational Ballivor Man Pens Life Story My Story is a book about the life of an extraordinary man named Patrick Murray. Born in 1987, he was not expected to live beyond birth, but he defied all the odds and at 25 years old he decided to write his book. Patrick was born with Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus in Holles Street Hospital and weighted 8lbs 3 oz’s. The son of Paddy and Peggie Murray of Coolronan, Ballivor, Patrick has one older brother Garret. While he was in Holles Street Hospital he remained in ICU and every day when his parents came to visit, they were told he was dying. After 7 weeks his father took him home to Coolronan and little by little Patrick improved. Every few weeks Patrick made the trip to Temple Street Children’s Hospital where sometimes he was kept for 5 to 6 days at a time. While in Temple Street it was discovered that his leg was broken and he was kept in plaster for 2 years but it kept slipping off. Patrick made his Confirmation at 2 years old because he had to return to hospital for a major operation on his back. His stay was two and a half months. His education began at home, where for one hour, three times a week, he was taught his numbers and words and nursery rhymes. At the age of 6 he started in Coolronan National School. Patrick was given a special needs teacher named Ann Davis who is his best friend to this day. My Story was officially launched on 29th June. His inspiration came from Spina Bifida Ireland who were trying to put a book together with 12 other people. As he had all the information gathered, Patrick decided to use everything to compile his own story. Patrick is now a volunteer in Claremont Stadium

where one day per week, he helps with fundraising and administrative duties. My Story is available from Claremont Stadium or Rehab in Mullaghboy Industrial Estate. It truly is a worth while read about an extraordinary life. After 25 years Patrick would like to say “thank you” to all his friends.

TaxAssist Accountants Opens In Navan

A new walk-in tax and accountancy advice service, TaxAssist Accountants, servicing small and mediumsize businesses and the self-employed opened in Navan opened on the 10th September 2012 Building on the experience of the last 30 years, in the Marsh Mackey accounting/auditing practice, this development is designed to meet the needs of the new generation of entrepreneurs and other clients looking for an informed/rapid response to accounting/taxation problems in the current economic climate. The new practice aims to simplify the accounts and tax process and offers real value to clients. TaxAssist specifically directs its services at clients such as small to medium size enterprises (SME’s) engaged in manufacturing, distribution, hospitality, retail, contracting, medical services etc. Clients can avail of a range of services such as tax returns, payroll, end-of-year accounts and book-keeping all on a fixed fee basis. Speaking about this new venture Noel Marsh commented. “ TaxAssist aims to lend its support and expertise specifically to small businesses in Navan and surrounding areas. There is a very positive attitude to business here in Navan and I felt there was an opportunity in the market, at this time, for a service that addressed the needs of small businesses and sole traders; TaxAssist I believe address’s this need.’ In a move away from convention, TaxAssist Accountants operates from a bright, open shop front on 3 Bridge Street, Navan. The idea of the shop front is that clients can simply call in, off the street, to discuss their accountancy and tax matters without an appointment. Speaking about this new way of operating Noel Marsh commented. ‘The profession is changing and practitioners have got to be more accessible and the process more transparent. Traditionally, a visit to the accountant was perceived as a necessary evil; the TaxAssist approach is geared to make the trip to the accountant a positive experience’. TaxAssist works with a broad range of clients and speaking about the client base he commented “Clients want a good, proactive service from their accountant; we offer a free one-hour consultation and we always work on a fixed fee basis which has been working well with clients” Celene Sheehy, CPA, Dip. Insolvency, will drive this project. Celene has 10 years experience in the profession and I am sure the clients will enjoy working with her and appreciate her understanding of their problems and her professional competence in dealing with them.

Kells family to take part in ‘Run for a Life’ to honour child’s organ donor Eight year old kidney transplant recipient Lana Devine and her family and friends will play their part in highlighting organ donation and honouring organ donors when they participate in the Irish Kidney Association’s Run for a Life. Lana and her parents, Emer and former Meath footballer Jody Devine along with her younger brother Liam (4) and her aunt (Emer’s sister) Sinead McNamee will take part in the charity family Fun Run/Walk which will take place at Park West Business Park, Dublin 12 on Saturday, 13th October commencing 12 noon and will coincide with European Day for Organ Donation & Transplantation. Lana received her life changing kidney transplant in 2008 when she was just four. Lana was born with dysplastic kidneys, a condition which means that her kidneys didn’t develop fully while in her mother’s womb. She was a patient of Temple Street Hospital who managed her condition from birth and for two years prior to her transplant she received nightly dialysis treatment, 6 nights a week, for 10 hours at a time. They were delighted when in August 2008 Lana was called for her life saving transplant. Lana’s mother who works in Kells Town Council has secured the support of her work colleagues including Emer Tunney, Elaine Carolan and Helen Sheridan and Sandra Doherty who will also take part in Run for a Life. Speaking in advance of Run for a Life, Emer Devine said, “we are so happy that Lana is now a happy healthy child who can enjoy a normal childhood which is thanks to organ donation. By taking part in Run for a Life we want to honour Lana’s donor as well as all organ donor families whose generous act has given people with organ failure a second chance at life and touched so many lives around them including their families”. Run for a Life is organised by the Irish Kidney Association and the main sponsor for the event is pharmaceutical company Astellas Pharma Co. Ltd. It will coincide with European Day for Organ Donation & Transplantation which takes place on the same day.

Speaking in advance, Colin White, Race Organiser, (Irish Kidney Association), explained, “the Irish Kidney Association is delighted to be hosting the Run for a Life again and we are looking to build on the community of runners, joggers and walkers, from previous years. Run for a Life showcases the success of organ donation and transplantation and is open to all members of the general public. We encourage the general public to join us on October 13th and make a commitment to organ donation and demonstrate solidarity through participation in this fun family event.” Mr. Stephen Joyce, Sales and Marketing Director said, “Astellas is proud to be once again partnering with the Irish Kidney Association in Run for A Life 2012. Astellas is committed to Changing tomorrow for patients in Ireland; and raising awareness for organ donation has the potential to really change outcomes for people on transplant waiting lists. We look forward to taking part in what should be a fun day for all !” Those signing up for the Run for a Life will have the option of walking, jogging or running competitively in either a 3.4km, 6.7km or 10km event in Park West, Dublin 12, commencing 12 noon. There will also be an option, for the first time this year, to enter a team of three in a 3 x 3.3km Team Relay Race. The choice of events on offer makes it possible for all people, young and old, with varying levels of fitness to take part. A large number of the members of the successful Irish team who participated in the European Transplant & Dialysis Games in Croatia in August, will take part in the Fun Run to play their part in raising organ donor awareness. The Run for a Life has two main objectives. Namely, to promote the organ donor card by raising awareness of the value and success of organ donation and transplantation and to raise funds to support the Irish Kidney Association in its on-going work. The Irish Kidney Association is charged with the promotion and distribution of the organ donor card

in Ireland. The prime role of the Irish Kidney Association is to support patients and their families affected by end stage kidney disease and are either being treated by dialysis or have a working kidney transplant. Registration (to include t-shirt and participant medal, (as well as soup and a sandwich afterwards) will be €15 for adults and €10 per child and a Family of 2 adults and up to 4 children can register for €35. Teams (3 adults) entering for the relay can register for €40. For registration and further details log on to: www.runforalife.ie. For organ donor cards Freetext DONOR to 50050 or LoCall 1890 543639. Instructions on how to reverse around a corner to the left.

Reversing is one of the major concerns people have in advance of their driving test. Reversing is not difficult. It is not necessary to be unduly concerned! As the saying goes “practice makes perfect”. The key to reversing is to ensure you move the car at a slow (walking) pace. The Manoeuvre: When the Instructor requests that you pull in after the corner to begin your reverse, turn on the indicator only after the junction. Park half a doors width (max 0.5 meters) from the kerb. Give due care to other road users at all times and do not block an entrance or driveway. Roll down your window before you begin to reverse. This will assist you with your observation. It will enable you to hear other vehicles before you can see them. Don’t forget G.S.O.H! (Gear.Signal. Observation.Handbrake). Put the car into reverse gear, the signal in this case is the reverse light on the exterior which will automatically turn on when the car is put in reverse. (This indicates to other road users what you are doing.) Begin your observation. Look over your right shoulder out the back windscreen, right wing mirror, windscreen, then left wing mirror, finishing with your left shoulder out the back windscreen. This enables a full 360 degree view of potential hazards. Then remove the handbrake. Slowly release the clutch to biting point until you feel the bite, hold it here until the car gently begins to reverse, going straight back. You should look out the back window (over your left shoulder) as it is important to face the direction in which the vehicle is travelling. Keep your head moving to focus on all the mirrors. Once the back wheel of your vehicle reaches the point at which the kerb begins to curve, steer to the left. If another vehicle or a hazard approaches (a hazard is anything that causes you to change speed or direction) you must yield right of way. At all times other vehicles have priority while you are reversing around the corner. If you do yield remember to

apply the handbrake while waiting, proceed only after you have completed all your observations again. The amount of steering required will depend on the corner. It is very important to continue to observe everything in all directions during your reverse. Continue to reverse following the curve of the kerb. Once the kerb and the side of the car become parallel, begin to straighten the vehicle. At this time you should adjust, if required the distance between the car and the kerb. You can do this by steering towards the kerb to be closer to the kerb, or away from the kerb, in order to be further away from the kerb. If the manoeuvre is completed correctly, it should not require very much steering. At no point while reversing the vehicle should you mount or hit the kerb. Do not cross the central divide on the road your reversing into. This is considered to be a driving fault. The instructor will inform you when to stop the vehicle. Continue reversing straight until he does so. When instructed to do so, apply the handbrake and await further instruction. I would like to take this opportunity to wish any readers going their test this week the very best of luck.

to have holes in pockets before Christmas

Farmers are and Irish consumers in Meath and the country at large are to take a hit in time for Christmas, as food prices are set to take a hike in the coming months. Reasons including a drought in the US and a severe increase in the cost of animal feed have been the dominating factors in the increase in price. Bird feed has risen to insane levels pricewise in the last while, as the demand for wheat and soya has rocketed. Butchers have been warning that the price of turkeys will rise in time for December, as the cost of feed itself takes up a massive portion of the rearing of a turkey. Eurostat, an EU statistics body have already released figures showing that food and drink here is almost 20% higher than any other country in Europe, so expense could be doubled by the end of this year. “With Christmas coming up, this couldn’t have come at a worse time” says motherof-three, Eva Gallagher. “This will be one of the toughest Christmases yet for families, especially with all the unemployment in the area, and now even more expense being added to the list”. Shops and supermarket chains are expected to be in heavy competition with each other towards December, with thousands of families hitting stores to find the cheapest bargain for Christmas dinner this year. “I would normally shop at the

closest store to me regardless of prices, just for convenience’s sake, but now I’ll be going that mile further to find what’s cheapest” Eva continued. The fear is that the Republic will take a bigger hit this year than most, with consumers heading up North again to buy their groceries and presents in bulk, at a much cheaper price. Farm crops have also been suffering of late, with the lack of sun and surge of rain leading to a decline in supply of vegetables like carrots, parsnips and potatoes, which will further add to the escalation.

Mick McCarthy Memorial Golf Classic Following the sudden death of Mick McCarthy in December 2009, a group of his close friends, with the support of his wife Susan came together to form a fundraising committee to keep Mick’s memory alive and to raise funds for charity. This year the Mick McCarthy golf event took place in Headfort Golf Club on Friday the 28th of September and 60 golfers took part in the competition followed by a social evening and presentation of prizes in the Kelltic Bar. Congratulations to Joe Morris who was the overall winner and took home the perpetual cup. Each year we nominate a different charity and this year’s chosen charity is the Kells branch of the Vincent de Paul. Subsequent to our golf event weare also running three other events to raise as much money as we can to support the local people of Kells. A poker classic will take place in the Headfort Arms Hotel on Friday 26th October. Celebrity bar tenders night takes place in Dawson 37 on Sunday 21st October. Dean McCarthy, Vincent Duff and Alan Clancy will run the New York City Marathon on November 4th. ( big thanks to Vincent and Alan who are self funding this trip). All proceeds raised from these four events will go directly to the Vincent de Paul and we expect to present them with the total funds raised beforethe end on November.

1980’s Diamonds Reunion for Meath Rehab A certain generation of Meath people will get the chance to wind back the clock to the day of their youth when a special 1980’s “Diamonds Disco” reunion takes place at the Swan

Lane venue in the Ardboyne Hotel Navan on Saturday October 27th next. All the proceeds on the night will go towards the Meath Rehab Care centre at “The Meadows” on the Trim Road in Navan.

The Centre provides day and overnight respite services for children up to the age of 18.

“Meath Rehab is always in need of funds and with close on 80 children per month using

respite services at the Centre, much needed finances are required to run the operation, “ said Gillian Barry-Hoey who is the chief organiser of the event. “Everything from DVD players,

trampolines, toys etc which have to replaced every so often have to be paid for so every penny donated will be greatly appreciated”, she said.

The music on the night will be from the 80’s/90’s and DJ Ken Murray will dust off his vast

collection of vinyl records for the occasion. According to Gillian, a number of people long

since left Navan have promised to be in attendance on the night. “The feedback on Facebook has been phenomenal. “Diamonds” was the name of the disco in the Ardboyne Hotel in the early 1980’s and for some people it was where they met their future spouses.

“It was even open on Wednesday nights believe it or not. It’s an opportunity to re-live the

social scene of the good old days in Navan and I and others can’t wait,” she said. The ‘80’s disco gets underway at 10pm and tickets which guarantee admission can be had from the Reception at the Ardboyne Hotel or alternatively by contacting Gillian Barry-Hoey at 086841-8734.

Admission without tickets will be strictly on a first come, first serve basis.

County Meath – uniquely where it all began - is bringing you Ireland’s most electrifying Halloween Festival! The Spirits of Meath Halloween Festival takes place all around the County from October 19th to November 5th 2012. Samhain, the ancient Celtic Festival that we now call Halloween, originated on the Hill of Tlachtga, now called the Hill of Ward, near Athboy, Co. Meath more than 2000 years ago. Samhain marks the end of the old Celtic Year and the beginning of the New Year. To celebrate Halloween this year, why not visit the origins of where the festival began all those centuries ago! The Spirits of Meath Halloween Festival has lots of tingling events taking place in every corner of the County making it Ireland’s biggest (and scariest!) Halloween Festival, delighting and frighting equally! From House of Horrors to Halloween Fun; from Friendly Witches to Spooks & Spells; from Crafty Witches to Creep Crazy Cuisine; from Fancy Dress to Candlelit Tours; from Pumpkin Carving to Halloween Trick or Treat days – there is something for everyone in Meath this Halloween with ‘scarily’ good accommodation offers - and lots of the events are free of charge! Spook yourself at www.spiritsofmeath.ie with all the up-to-date information on this year’s festival; info@meathtourism.ie or call +353 46 9097060 for a copy of your free programme of events.

Theresa Olohan, hailing from Kells, was one of several who came tops in the Meath People of The Year Awards last week. Theresa was picked for the Unsung Hero Award, surrounded by a large group of her friends, family and supporters. A further ten different winners of a variety of categories were chosen on the night. Theresa said she was “surprised and honoured to have received the award on the night. Getting The Best From Acupuncture Mairi Caughey, Dip AC, Lic Ac, CAc (Nanjing), MAFPA

We all want results quickly, and often acupuncture can give you that. But if you’ve tried a couple of sessions of acupuncture and not got the improvement you expected, read on. In this article I’ll explain why people who stick with their treatment get better results. What is ‘a course’ of acupuncture? Happily, conditions of recent onset (several weeks), such as neck and shoulder stiffness and pain, and even some conditions that have been around for months, respond well in five-to-ten sessions, and often much less. But when it comes to chronic conditions, just as medicine is ineffective unless you take the prescribed dose, if you don’t get acupuncture frequently enough or for long enough it is unlikely to yield the desired results. As a general rule, most patients with chronic conditions notice some improvement within 3-4 treatments and the improvement builds gradually but steadily over further sessions. However, it is after 3-4 sessions that some people stop coming for treatment, disappointed that they aren’t ‘cured’ and wary of spending more money. While the necessary does very much depends on the nature of the problem, the fact is, chronic diseases require long-term treatment to bring them under control. Common examples of these more chronic conditions include allergies such as perennial rhinitis, asthma, oedema and neurological diseases such as trigeminal neuralgia. A course of acupuncture for conditions such as these is sometimes regarded as 10-12 sessions and this should yield good results. What if there is more than one problem? Another factor that determines the number of treatments

you need is your starting point. If you are otherwise healthy and have only one complaint then treatment is relatively straightforward, but when there are several things going on, which may or may not be related to each other, or when you are feeling run down as well, it’s going to take a little longer to see results. In these circumstances you might need some preliminary work on your energy and general well-being before work on the more obvious problems can begin. Is that all there is to it? Acupuncture can work wonders on its own, but improving one’s diet and lifestyle will contribute significantly to the likelihood of success with acupuncture. Obviously, simple changes such as cutting down tea and coffee and taking more regular exercise will help problems such as insomnia. Sometimes, however, it might be necessary to make more significant changes; reducing dairy or sugar can be critical to managing conditions such as sinusitis, cystitis and colitis Long term and wider benefits For many people, reducing medication is one of the benefits of acupuncture. For example, after 8 – 12 treatments most chronic back pain patients are able to cut out or reduce their pain killers, get back to work and enjoy active pursuits. And even if some pain returns after several months, it usually takes just a couple of treatments to get them back to normal. Another benefit is that people often notice over a longer treatment course is that their sleep and energy improve significantly, even though their original complaint was about a different problem. This happens because their treatment plan is addressing more than one problem at the same time, giving them value for mone

Let Your Baby’s Hands Do the Talking! Baby Sign Language Classes Come to Meath Based on a concept that originated in the US in 1986 with Dr Joseph Garcia, baby sign language has become an international phenomenon allowing parents to communicate at a whole new level with their infants before they have learned to talk. Already extremely popular in the U.S. and across Europe, baby sign classes are beginning to take off in Ireland. At the forefront of this is SuperHands, who are about to launch their baby sign language classes in Meath this autumn. Using simple gestures, babies and their parents embark on an entirely new journey of interaction with each other and more importantly, have fun together. Thanks to SuperHands baby sign language courses, parents and babies can learn to sign with each other in just 6 weeks through songs, poems and stories in a warm, relaxed atmosphere. Baby sign language can reduce baby’s frustration, enhance confidence, increase parent-child bond, accelerate speech and reduce temper tantrums. Above all, however, the classes are about fun. Erin, mum to Eloise, has really enjoyed her SuperHands’ experience: “We started SuperHands classes when Eloise was three months old and by seven months she was signing “more.” Now, at 23 months, she is able to let us know not only when she’s hungry but also what she’d like to eat - raisin, biscuit, milk, banana, etc. It has helped us understand her better as she learns to speak which, in turn, cuts down on tantrums by easing her frustration when communicating with us. SuperHands makes learning sign language fun for both babies and parents. I couldn’t believe how quickly I was able to pick up the signs and start using them at home. Having begun in the West of Ireland in 2009, hundreds of parents and babies have taken part in SuperHands classes and learned this new method of communicating with their babies. Miriam Devitt, founder of SuperHands, welcomes the expansion of the classes to Meath. “This is a very exciting time for infant communication in Ireland. The feedback from my classes in Dublin, Clare and Limerick has been so great that I was keen to expand as quickly as possible. Now parents in Meath can experience

the joys of signing with their babies in a fun and supportive atmosphere.” For further information, please contact: Grainne O’Connor, SuperHands Meath Tel: 086 803 0745 Or visit www.superhands.ie for further details and booking information.

CREATINE

Because of its popularity, creatine’s health benefits

have been studied quite extensively. Research has found that proper creatine intake is essential to good health in a number of ways.

• Creatine and Alzheimer’s Disease. Creatine

supplementation can lower serum homocysteine levels.

High

serum

homocysteine

levels

are linked to numerous neurological and psychiatric disorders. These conditions include depression, dementia and Alzheimer’s Disease.

In fact, a recent study revealed that high serum

PLUS MUCH MORE!

homocysteine levels doubled the risk of chance of getting Alzheimer’s.

• Creatine as an antioxidant. Recently, it was found that creatine is very effective as an antioxidant. In

fact, creatine is nearly as effective as glutathione in battling free radicals. Glutathione is an

extremely potent antioxidant produced naturally in the body. Therefore, proper creation intake is essential for long term good health.

• Creatine use with B vitamins. Vitamins B2, B6, B9 and B12 are essential for proper creatine synthesis. Supplementing B vitamins along

with creatine optimizes cellular methylation.

Proper methylation optimizes beneficial cell growth, in addition to muscular growth. Suboptimal methylation leads to higher instances of unwanted, cancerous forms of cell growth.

• Creatine and heart disease. Coronary Heart

Disease (CHD) is the leading cause of death in the Western world. Currently in the United States, over 13 million Americans are battling

CHD. Creatine supplementation can help battle the onset of CHD. Creatine lowers serum

homocysteine levels. Without proper creatine intake, serum homocysteine levels rise. High serum homocysteine levels contribute to the development of Coronary Heart Disease (CHD).

• Creatine and cognitive function. Not only does creatine battle muscle fatigue, but it also appears that creatine empowers proper brain

functioning. A recent study revealed that creatine

supplementation directly lead to an improved ability to solve problems, and improved short term memory. Individuals supplementing with creatine also had better IQ scores.

Keep Winter Out and The Heat In!

Winter is fast approaching so the long cold nights, frost and snow are almost upon us once again. This is the time of year that heating bills, electricity and fuel costs rise. To help prevent the cost getting out of hand this winter here are some useful tips which should keep Jack Frost outside and the temperature high on the inside. The cost of energy is increasing all the time so its important that your wallet is protected. Good insulation is vital to keep heat costs down and stop heat loss. There are companies that specialise in Insulation and they are on hand to advise on what is the correct amount of insulation and what type of insulation is best suited to your home. The attic and walls can be where a lot of heat escapes from your house so it is vital they are both well insulated. Keep the Draft Out: Make sure windows and doors are well draft proofed. This will stop the cold air from outside getting into your home. When there is cooler air in the house the first thing we tend to do is turn the heat up. This simple step could prevent that and keep your heating bill down. The use of curtains will also keep the heat in and stop cold air from circulating if there is a draft getting in through your windows. Have your burner serviced to make sure it is running efficiently. When your burner is well serviced and maintained it works a lot better and increases its efficiency and in the long run save you money. It’s important that your plumber is registered to carry out the work. Make sure you have to right heating system to heat your home more efficiently. There are many more ways to help bring your heating costs down and keep the cold where it belongs, on the outside.

Monday Blues as Spicer’s in its final days Following on from twenty job losses in January, comes another blow as a further twenty are to leave the historic Spicer’s bakery in Navan with the announcement of the establishment’s closure. Receivers broke the bad news in the store on Monday last, that the nearly 200 year old bakery was to be shut down, after another number of closures reported in the Meath Herald in the last few months. The closure of the bakery will bring the number of job losses to forty, with Councillor Joe Reilly saying “It was probably the oldest business in Navan, and has

employed a huge number of people over the years. The town cannot afford to lose any more jobs”. Councillor Tommy Reilly also came forward, calling it a “black day” for Navan and Meath. The conclusion to the bakery will mark the end of an era, with the business opening back in the 1800’s, and running several other bakeries in Balbriggan, Kells and Trim. Employees have been promised their entitlements, however as with most redundancy situations in the current climate, they may see nothing for up to three months.

THE SELECTIONS

Kells band with outstanding potential The Selections are a very professional original rock band from Kells with an excellent website www. theselections.net. The band switched to original songs in September 2011 and could well emulate the success of another Kells band,Ham Sandwich. In the Music Videos section of the website, there are two versions of two songs “Birds of a Feather” and “In the Cold” any of which can demonstrate the excellent potential of this band. The Selections are Carl Gillic on vocals, rhythm guitar & harmonica, Errol Feekery on lead guitar & acoustic guitar and his brother Alan Feekery on bass guitar with Anthony Mulvany on drums & backing vocals. The band are influenced by the likes of Fleetwood Mac, The Black Crowes, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Pearl Jam, Allman Brothers, Cream & Pink Floyd .Such influences can be heard in tracks such as “Birds of a Feather”, “In The Cold”, “Way Back Home” and “Stones Throw Away”. Carl Gillic on lead vocals is as good if not better than anybody I’ve heard live in a long, long time and is a son of PJ Gillic, the ex-Meath football star of the 1980s.The band have also featured on Radio Nova’s “Locals Only”,whose podcast you can check out on the band’s website. Their first EP “ The Devil’s in the Detail” was launched in The Palace,Navan in August. All the songs are of the highest quality and deserve to be on National Radio and TV at the very least. This band are even better live,as I saw recently at Ceol at the O, the Outdoor Music Festival at the Round O in Navan. The Selections have supported top Irish acts such as Ham Sandwich, The Riptide Movement, Johnny Fean & The Walls and are looking forward to headlining Cork’s top live venue “The Crane lane Theatre on 21st October.

Rhyino Farrell is a young hard-working musician from Navan who previously fronted a band with the Zookeepers. He has frequently played Navan venues such as Beggy’s,Ryan’s and The Stonehouse. Rhyino’s own composition “Song for a Raggy Boy” was influenced by the terrible abuse depicted in the movie of the same name. Rhyino explains “I was so struck by the abuse shown in the film, that I had to respond in writing this song. I also wanted to show that young people can speak up and stand up for what is right ”. Check out this catchy song on You Tube and also “All along the Watchtower”, “Shadows” and “Machines”.He works with Aaron Harte and “Teezy” from time to time and likes to infuse acoustic with Reggae dance and Hip Hop music Rhyino has supported well known acts such as The Rude Boys and Jameire and is a refreshing addition to the local live music scene in Meath.

DROGS OUTCLASS SHAMROCK ROVERS TO WIN EA SPORTS CUP FINAL IN TALLAGHT STADIUM What a thrill to hear the Queen Classic”We are the Champions” being played once again at the end of another Drogs Cup Final.Only this time their success was achieved on a shoestring budget with no big investment as in 2005 -2008, when they won the FAI Cup,The Setanta Cup (twice)and their first ever League Championship. Three Brennan brothers, Gavin, Ryan & Sean (sub) lined out out for the Drogs against their older brother Cillian (Shamrock Rovers). The Boynesiders had previously knocked out League title favourites Sligo Rovers by 2-1 in the semi-final and fully deserved their 3-1 win over Shamrock Rovers in Tallaght Stadium. Rovers brought in ex-Burnley manager Brian Laws after Stephen Kenny was sacked, but two early goals from Fabio & Gilbert (og)set them on their way.Despite a wonder strike by Cillian Brennan,Rovers capitulated after Eric Foley replied soon afterwards. A huge number of the Drogs supporters come from County Meath with long-time supporters like Gerry and John Gorman (Navan),Gerry Hand & The Berills(Slane),Noel Heeney,Brendan McKeown & Craig Brodigan(Duleek),Cha rlie,Brenda,Danielle & Dean Moore (Cloghertown),Sue,Ben,Chloe & Leah Horgan(Robinstown),Pat & Sean Maher & The Millers (Bettystown),the Brady family(Ratoath),Willie McHugh (Rathkenny) & Martin Holland(Kells). The amazing atmosphere amongst Drogheda Utd players and supporters in Tallaght Stadium, made this Cup win all the more memorable.Recorded below are the reactions of the players, management, staff and media, on another momentous day in the club’s history. Manager Mick Cooke “I thought we played very well in the first half and could have went in maybe three or four up at half-time.It was great for Eric Foley to score that crucial third ,nullifying Rovers’ goal so soon after they scored .We were able to settle again as that goal seemed to kill off any spirit that Rovers had.To think that we have lifted a trophy after only 18 months and still be second in the league,is fantastic for everyone at the club.Fair play to Jim Agnew and the Board for sticking with us the whole way.” Assistant Manager Robbie Horgan, who lives with his family in Robinstown, “ I thought we were on top right throughout the game.I’m delighted for all the boys especially after the agonising defeat to Pat’s in the FAI Cup earlier in the week. It’s a reward for all the hard work and dedication in training, as far back as pre-season in January. We fully

deserved the win and hopefully there is more success to come!” Captain Paul Crowley “We had the chance to redeem ourselves tonight after losing to Pat’s on Monday. It really did spur us on tonight. We said it in the huddle tonight,we had to do it for ourselves first of all and then it’s for the fans and everybody else.We showed great hunger and aggression and that’s what made it happen! It was like playing at home in Drogheda tonight with that massive support!” Man of the Match,Fabio, who lives in Clonee, had previously captained the team to four major trophies “After going so well this season we really needed to win a trophy and it’s great that we’ve done that but we need to push on and do our best for the league. You just never know!I was actually doubtful for the game with an ankle injury and have to thank Danny our physio for getting me right!” Substitute Cathal Brady from Dunboyne, epitomises the tremendous spirit in the whole squad “Of course I’d love to have played in the final today but the lads have been playing well for so long now,it’s always going to be hard to break into the team. The deal is, if you play well, you stay in!” Brian Gannon “ Words can’t describe it.It’s absolutely brilliant!Days like this we will always remember, as they don’t come too often!” Substitute Stephen Quigley, who lives in Navan, had previously won a League Cup medal with St.Pat’s when they beat Longford Town in the final back in 2003. “We had not done ourselves justice in the three previous defeats to Rovers but this time the lads showed great belief and were too good for Rovers on the day!” Director Noel Heeney from Duleek “To me this Cup win means more than that of previous successes because this was built from the ground up.It’s a team on a very small budget, with nobody on big wages. Gavin Brennan “ I have to say our support today was unbelievable! It felt like the whole of Drogheda was here roaring us on, an unbelievable experience!I’m delighted that it’s the three Brennans and not just the one, that’s picking up the medals today!” DUFC photographer Thos Caffrey had left his sick bed to make the match and took no less than 1,400 photos at the game! “I was never going to miss this game and this win will mean an awful lot to the people of Drogheda and the surrounding areas of Counties Meath, Louth and North Dublin!”

Mooove Over Troubled Skin!

A real alternative to chemicals and steroids for troubled skin

MooGoo the Australian natural skincare range, a real alternative to chemicals and steroids for troubled skin is now available all over Ireland. MooGoo was adapted from a cream used in dairy farms. The dairy version of “Udder Cream” was designed to heal the cow’s udders and keep them in good condition for milking. The range has now become an Australian phenomenon and is made from only natural ingredients including edible oils such as almond oil, olive oil, rice bran oil, and lots of other skin repair ingredients to help with itchy, flaky and irritable skin caused by harsh weather conditions and other common skin problems. Skin conditions are the fourth most common reason for GP visits in Ireland. Each year, 15% of all GP visits are attributed to a skin complaint. Today, between 25% and 33% of the Irish population suffer from a dermatological condition at any one time.* However MooGoo provides a natural alternative to this problem. Made in Queensland, Australia, the MooGoo product range is made with natural healing ingredients that have helped thousands of adults and children with troubled skin and scalps since it was first launched in 2006. Paul Casserly who brought the range to Ireland 2 years ago is blown away by its success and attributes the popularity to word of mouth and the fact that customers have seen it work. Products include shampoos and scalp creams, as well as specialist balms and moisturisers to help with various skin problems. MooGoo is made from natural ingredients and so can be safely used on children and infants as well as adults. The philosophy for MooGoo products is to use full strength healing ingredients and provide an alternative to petroleum based ingredients, steroids or artificial preservatives. Only ingredients which are naturally healthy for the skin are used, to avoid any irritation or dryness and help the skin to repair itself. Because the ingredients are all natural, they are tested on humans and not animals. No gimmicks, just pure, natural, healing ingredients. MooGoo’s success has been fuelled by positive feedback from happy customers around Ireland who have requested that their local pharmacies stock this innovative product. For more information on skin conditions, products and benefits or to read what other customers have to say visit www.moogoo.ie The history of the MooGoo range is both fun and fascinating. The first MooGoo product was a human version of a repair cream that is commonly used on dairy cow udders to repair the skin after milking. This cream became a folk remedy for skin problems due to its repairing properties and people began visiting dairy farms and local produce stores to pick up the cream. MooGoo made a new human version by adding a few extra healthy ingredients and making it more natural and that is how the brand (and the name!) was born. The full range still includes the original udder cream product as well as soaps shampoos and moisturisers. Look out for MooGoo near you, in its distinctive white packaging adorned with images of the happy, healthy MooGoo cows! MooGoo is available from Stauntons Pharmacy,Church Hill, Navan.

10 Ways to get body confident By Stevie D - Professional Wedding Planner

While I stated last month we have just started into a new wedding season we are also coming to the end of this years one. Christmas is fast becoming a great time to get married. Not happy with the way your body shape is going? Rock the aisle (and your honeymoon!) with these insider tips to get you looking and feeling your very best. 1. Change your thinking: body confidence comes from using your body rather than just see it as something to be looked at in the mirror. When you start to excerise you feel stronger which builds confidence. 2. Flaunt your Curves: Learn how to use your feminine charms and enhance your sex appeal with a burlesque class. Its the thing at the hen party right now-think silly names, nipple tassels and pretending to be Dita Von teasel! Look up this web site www.burlesquehenparty.co.uk 3. Conquer your Cardio; Running is one of the quickest ways to tone up and improve your fitness -plus the the cardio will boost your circulation and your mood. Start by alternating a few minutes of running and fast walking until your fitness levels pick up. Download the app Mapmyrun to your phone to get motivated. 4. Zap Fat Fast; If you have left it til the last few weeks, then you need to do something pretty intense to make a difference. I would recommend running or spinning, along with weights circuit training or boxercise. Think of it as an investment in yourself, short term pain for long term gain. 5. Fix your diet: Want to shift a few pounds without crash dieting? Stop counting calories and start losing Weight has the answer, water retention drops in fewer than five days when you cut out foods to which you are most to be likely intolerant -sugar, lour and dairy being the main ones. Stick to unprocessed meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, salad and a portion of brown rice or porridge oats daily”. 6. Move your Commute a workout: ” I hate excerise so the best thing for me was to force myself into it” shares recent Leslie, 26.”l let my fiancé take the car to work for three months before the wedding and bought myself a cheap bike. I lost almost half a stone and saved a fortune in car parking fees and road toals. 7. Get Glowing: Pre wedding stress can dull the skin and make you feel tired and sluggish. Swimming and yoga are great ways to relax the mind. Switch off your phone after 9pm and ensure your bedroom is clutter free. You will wake up with a glow and renewed energy that no amount of lotions and potions can replicate. 8. Shake up your Routine: If you are tired of running round the park on your own, a quick Facebook call-out for exercise ideas will help you find some new activities and force you to meet up with real people (i.e. not your wedding co-ordinator, the florist, photographer, priest). This can only be a good thing. 9. Pamper Your Self happy: Theres nowhere for those wobbly, flaky or spotty bits to hide when your on your honeymoon, so deal with the problem areas now. Treat yourself to a Clarins body treatment, available at most chemists. The choices include figure shaper, intensive body body firmer and Super Hydrator. 10. Love being you: Sometimes, no amount of dieting or exercise can make you love your body. So instead decide to stop comparing yourself to celebrities and embrace your Shape! Thats it for this month at The Meath Herald your one stop shop for all good Wedding advice. You can get all my wedding tips on my blog on www.djsteviedee.ie or wedding dj direct.ie
