STUDENT INTERNSHIP PROGRAM MAXGRIP The SIP Experiences of Teun van Leuveren at MaxGrip. As an Industrial Engineering and Management student at the Hanze University of Applied Sciences in The Netherlands, Teun van Leuveren was looking to write a business development thesis at a company that operates on a global level so that he could learn about working in an international business environment. MDBC member MaxGrip, a global player in Asset Performance Management (APM), was therefore a great match for Teun’s ambitions. This Dutch company has its headquarters in Utrecht, The Netherlands, and offices in

the USA, Malaysia, Australia, Germany, Taiwan, and Singapore. “I wanted to be able to make my internship count, my thesis results should contribute to the success of an international company. When I talked to my friends who have done an internship through MDBC’s SIP, they all recommended it for gaining international work experience; I was immediately sold. They told me Malaysia is the place that offers the exact things that I was looking for: a growing economy with a lot of opportunities, a good quality of living, and the possibility for an adventure.” Teun’s internship is in business development and his primary task is to write a thesis about the positioning of the future long - term strategy for MaxGrip. According to Mark Wevers (HR Business Partner, MaxGrip Malaysia), “For more than five years we have welcomed students at our Malaysia office. We believe that the student’s open mindset contributes in a positive way to the diversity of the teams, creating fresh and enlightening ideas. For MaxGrip, it is important that students learn more than just the curriculum of

their study, doing an internship in Malaysia, and especially at MaxGrip gives you the opportunity to take in an international work environment, learn to apply cross cultural communications, and more.” Mark adds, “The assignment we have Teun is challenging for a third - year student. This is not only because the APM market keeps changing rapidly, but also because it is a complex field of work. However, as we expected, Teun is a quick learner and is really motivated to add value to MaxGrip’s strategy by completing a qualitative report with good recommendations for us to put into practice.” MaxGrip finds it has a corporate responsibility to prepare the next generation of young people for working life. MaxGrip Malaysia has been very satisifed with the students that are placed by SIP so far; the program is a good bridge between the company’s Dutch roots and MaxGrip Malaysia’s office. Teun concludes, “I am almost finished with my internship and I can say that Malaysia and MaxGrip have exceeded my expectations, the economy is fascinating and the APM market is a great challenge.”
