The Not For Profit Mountsorrel And Rothley Community Heritage Centre grew from the desire of local residents to create a place where visitors could learn about the history of our villages as well as the wildlife around us.

The Heritage Centre occupies a 10 acre site just off Swithland Lane, close to the junction with Halstead Road. Work started to create the site 8 years ago and the Heritage Centre opened in 2016. Since then many additional areas of interest have been added.

Almost all you see has been created by community volunteers and more new areas are being added over the coming months. As well as the heritage rooms in the main building, there is a railway museum and local history museums, a quarry heritage building, two carefully created nature trails totalling over a mile in length, botanical gardens and two royal gardens, a Peace Garden, historic railway shunting sidings, a narrow gauge passenger railway, garden railway, crazy golf course, a den building area and a station for the restored Mountsorrel Railway. The site is open 7 days a week 10am until 4:45pm. With no grants to support its running costs, the Heritage Centre depends entirely on income from its Granite's Coffee shop and a small entrance fee of £2 adults and £1 children.
