Community & Recreation Centers Tyvola Senior Center: Bubbly Brushes Every quarter, seniors from Tyvola Senior Center and the surrounding community have the opportunity to join in some fun by taking our evening Bubbly Brushes class. This program is a partnership with Paint and Praise. During the session participants are given step-by-step painting techniques, exposed to color mixing and formulates their own master piece. The beautiful painting is a keepsake to take home. Light refreshments, beverages, and good times are offered during this evening. Tyvola Senior Center seniors painted a magnificent butterfly. Community & Recreation Centers Bette Rae Thomas Recreation Center: Lil’ Ray Basketball The Bette Rae Thomas Recreation Center Warriors (pictured in YELLOW) three and four-year-old Lil’ Ray basketball team is really hitting their stride in the middle of this fall season! All of the players are showing outstanding improvement and teamwork! Players were showing off their dribbling skills, sharpshooting, and tenacious defense throughout the game. Kudos to Coach Henry for his exceptional work with this group of up-and-coming superstars!!!

Community & Recreation Centers Therapeutic and Inclusive Recreation Services: Big Time Bowlers Big Time Bowlers is a program designed for ages 18 and older with disability. Each week, we go to Ten Park Lanes, where we spend an hour and a half perfecting our bowling skills and having a fun time with friends. Many of the participants score at least a 130 and continue to increase/maintain their score each week! This program gives participants the opportunity to increase physical activity and socialization skills.

Community & Recreation Centers Methodist Home Recreation Center: Youth Cheerleading Methodist Home Recreation Center has added a new, high flying program for the young ladies in the community. We are extremely proud of our Lady Bulls and all of the hard work they put in on a weekly basis. Although the Flag Football season is coming to an end, we are excited to add new faces to the squad and prepare for the 2018-2019 basketball season! Community & Recreation Centers Shamrock Senior Center: Delicious Acorn Fall Treats Fall is so wonderful here in the south. The days are cooler and the holidays are just around the corner. Many people enjoy decorating and creating treats for family and friends to enjoy throughout the season changes. Last week, our seniors created bite size peanut butter and chocolate acorns! They used bite size cookies, chocolate chips and Hershey’s kisses to create these adorable and tasty treats! This was a great project for participants and they were able to use their creativity as well as bring home a treat to enjoy later. Community & Recreation Centers Berewick Recreation Center: Afterschool Lego Engineering Lego Engineering is very popular among the children at Berewick Elementary! Recreation center staff facilitate this program every Tuesday from 3:30pm5:30pm for five weeks. In these five weeks, participants will have creative and constructional building time, as well as develop important values such as team work, sharing and enjoying their time with their peers. In all, we a have 30 children registered for Lego Engineering this session.

Community & Recreation Centers Naomi Drenan Recreation Center/Grayson Skate Park: Fall Decorations Add Color to Facility as Programs Continue Naomi Drenan Recreation Center had a great week as students and staff decorated the center with new fall decorations inside and skate expert Justin Klaus added an amazing art piece to the Skate Park. 4-H and Physical Education programs have been a huge success along with the business basketball mid-day games and Saturday Hoop Sessions. The center has many impactful programs on the horizon that kids and adults in the community are all very excited about. Community & Recreation Centers Albemarle Road Recreation Center: Trips for Kids Albemarle Road Recreation Center took 17 area youth to a Trips for Kids outing at Colonial Francis Beatty Park on Saturday October 6, 2018. Community & Recreation Centers Revolution Sports Academy Host Healthy Teen Dating Discussion 2018 Several teens attended Revolution Sports Academy for the Healthy Teen Dating Discussion. The event featured teen dating violence awareness activities such as educational video (My First Girl Friend), games (Family Feud, Healthy & Unhealthy), informative discussions, role playing and educational handouts. Each participant received an event t-shirts and giveaways. Guest speakers included Alex Pyun (Mecklenburg County Information / Education Coordinator) and Faye Smothers (CMPD Crime Prevention). Community & Recreation Centers Sugaw Creek Recreation Center: Charlotte Ballet Showcase The Charlotte Ballet Reach program is a program designed for boys and girls between the ages of 7 – 10. They meet every Monday and Wednesday at Sugaw Creek Recreation Center at 5 pm. Last Friday the Charlotte Ballet program put on a showcase for the families and participants of the Charlotte Reach Program. This live showcase featured professional dancers who put on an excellent performance; infusing theatre with ballet!

Community & Recreation Centers Ivory/Baker Recreation Center: Girls On the Hike Girls in our hiking program visited an area greenway where they explored about 4 miles of trails. A couple of highlights on the hike included identifying sweetgum trees with the round, spiky seeds that fell to the ground and numerous dog breeds enjoying a walk on the greenway with their owners.
