Preps 2015 Preps’ enthusiastic start to school education Some students were shy, a few were reluctant but most were happy to smile widely for the News’ photographers when they visited the region’s schools to document the Prep classes of 2015. Dressed in their crisp new uniforms and ready to learn, more than 1000 Preps have commenced their primary school education at public and private schools in and around Shepparton. Photographers travelled many kilometres to capture the images of the new students which, when compiled, create a valuable keepsake for years to come. Some of the larger schools have four full classes of beginners while

in several small rural schools there is just one Prep student. News photographers Julie Mercer and Holly Curtis, with the assistance of the classroom teachers, managed to organise the Prep photos; some taken inside the classroom, others outside under shady trees or assembled on play equipment to ensure every smiling face is clearly seen. Julie Mercer said the students seemed to have settled well into the school routine and were familiar with lining up and taking direction from staff. Often the photo sessions interrupted art classes, sport or lessons and after happily posing for the camera the students were eager to return to their scheduled activities.

St Luke’s Catholic Primary School student Cedah Opie is among more than 1000 Shepparton region youngsters who started school this year. The News celebrates the start of their learning journey in this 16-page feature.

Exciting times ahead The start of primary school education is an exciting time for children and parents alike, and I would like to take this opportunity to wish our new local preps the very best for an exciting year. I trust that they will enjoy making new friends and learning new and wonderful things during their time at the great schools in our district. And I know they will have fun!
