FINALISTS

Coolabah Turf

At Coolabah Turf they love lawn. It’s their thing. It’s what they live, eat and breathe, every waking moment of every day. The primary purpose of the business is to provide sustainable and affordable, instant lawn landscape solutions. The Echuca West based business was established in 1999 to primarily service professional landscape and commercial markets, public open space areas (council clients) and DIY projects for homeowners throughout regional Victoria. Morally and environmentally, the team is proud to specialize in the exclusive supply of drought tolerant turfgrass varieties. Their commitment to our environmental platform was born out of navigating the challenging times of being in business during more than a decade of Victoria’s worst drought in history, which prompted us to either get better in the game, or get out of the game. After almost 20 years of continued growth and farm expansions, Coolabah Turf now provides a statewide service to supply products to all end users via a significant direct retail market and a distribution network, including the national Bunnings Warehouse chain. We have 15 independent distributors outside of the Bunnings network, and are now currently the largest grower of Sir Walter DNA Certified instant lawn in Australia.

Freeland Pork

Freeland Pork’s vision is to be a world-leading small-scale farm which successfully produces the highest quality free range pork and integrates that quality food production with healthy on farm biodiversity. The Freeland Pork farm is a sustainable and regenerative model for the self-sufficient production of chemical free, free range pork from the birth of the piglets right through to the consumable product. The daily operations of the farm are run on a simple system of feeding, care and maintenance. Data is collected on the joining of the sows, gestation, birthing, weaning, vaccinating, progeny growth rates based on percentage gains, stock rotation and how the product is then sold. The Freeland Pork farm’s business model has the capacity to produce on average 20 full bodied carcasses every week to fulfill a broad range of customers.
