Genealogy group to talk focus groups The Solano County Genealogy Society will hear from Ron Arons, who will present “Sex, Lies, and Genealogical Tape” at the next meeting of the society. The virtual presentation begins at 11 a.m. Saturday. This presentation focuses on how to use “ i nd iv idu a l-fo c u s e d ” genealogy to one’s advantage instead of focusing on collecting names, dates and locations to expand one’s family tree, researching one individual at a time, providing a different and, arguably, much more satisfying experience, according to a press release for the talk. Arons will demonstrate how he discovered the sordid and salacious details of one of his ancestors, certainly the black sheep of the family. He will include how to collect as many different records as possible, and the unexpected benefits of this approach. Arons has an eclectic background. He’s a
former high-tech marketing executive, an expert on researching criminals, a data visualization maven and an author of three genealogy-oriented books. He’s also had an article published in the peerreviewed journal, The American Genealogist. He won a Hackman Research Grant award from the New York State Archives and also appeared on the PBS series, “The Jewish Americans.” Having spent more than 20 years researching his family, Arons has traced his roots back to Poland, Ukraine, Romania, Belarus, Lithuania and England. He has given more than 500 presentations across the country and internationally. Arons earned a bachelor of science degree in engineering from Princeton University and an MBA from the University of Chicago. Guests are welcome to attend this free event.
