Raymond Lowell Melson

July 6, 1942-March 25, 2020

Raymond Lowell Melson, 77, of Shingle Springs loving husband, father, stepdad, grandpa, uncle, cousin and friend, passed away March 25, 2020 from multiple health issues. Ray was born July 6, 1942 in Placerville, Calif., to Lowell and Dorothy Melson. He grew up in Placerville and graduated from El Dorado High School. He worked at Michigan Cal Lumber Mill and then went back to school for computer science. He began his working career at Mother Lode Bank in Placerville as a computer programmer and retired 32 years later in 2002 after four mergers with Bank of America as vice president helping corporate clients with financial needs. Ray and Diane spent their retirement years fishing, hunting, taking road trips and cruising. Of course Ray’s favorite were all the fishing trips he could fit in. His favorite places to fish were New Melones, Calif., and Lake Powell, Utah. He also looked forward to his annual hunting trip to Idaho. Road trips took them all over the United States, Canada and Alaska to see many wonderful sights and ever enjoyable visits with family and friends. He always made sure Diane got her grandma fixes. Ray was preceded in death by his parents and grandson, Andrew McGee Melson. He is survived by his loving wife of 23 outstanding years, Diane; two children, Matthew Melson of Silver Springs, Nev., daughter, Merrily Maloney of Placerville; two step-children, stepson Douglas Warwick (Misty) of Huntsville, Ala., and stepdaughter Dawn Fink (Todd) of New Berlin, Wis.; and six grandchildren, Sydney, Dalen, Isabella, Kayla, Owen and Kai. Plans are being made (if all goes well) for a celebration of life July 6, 2020 at Davies Family Inn at Shadow Ridge Ranch, 3700 Fort Jim Road in Placerville. Time yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the American Heart Association or Pancreatic Cancer Action Network.
