To receive Medicare and Medicaid reimbursements under the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act, hospitals must report on 15 hospital quality measures using certified electronic health record (EHR) technology to collect and calculate data. McKesson’s certified EHR systems include a component, McKesson Quality eMeasures™, that calculates and submits the required measures to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and the states.
The Benchmarking Advantage McKesson’s Quality Benchmarks Collaborative contains measures compiled as a by-product of the clinical quality measure reporting required by CMS under HITECH. Using McKesson Quality eMeasures as a foundation, the service enables subscribers to compare their results to other providers’ to understand their comparative performance.
However, solely reporting on those measures will not enact the cultural change necessary for health reform. Organizations need actionable information – observed results and benchmarks – to establish and achieve meaningful targets. By subscribing to McKesson’s Quality Benchmarks Collaborative™ service, healthcare organizations have
While traditional quality benchmark services use manually collected data, Quality Benchmarks Collaborative electronically captures clinical data at the point of care for quality metrics comparison. Comparative analyses translate into benchmark targets, setting a new standard of excellence for quality measurement.

The Quality Benchmarks Collaborative service uses statistical tools to measure and compare results across caregivers, populations and time segments — providing an impetus to change. McKesson augments this technology with services provided by business advisors with unique training in benchmarking clinical processes and outcomes. These advisors help forge a powerful partnership among your stakeholders as you plan for other health reform initiatives. Services include: – Selection of benchmarks – Intensive education and interpretation of results – Stakeholder-centric education on root-cause analysis – Virtual network communities – Adoption of outcomes measures related to meaningful use
Seamless Delivery McKesson Quality eMeasures is the only prerequisite to participate in the Quality Benchmarks Collaborative service. The Outcomes Imperative Stage 1 meaningful use measurement focuses on processes related to evidence-based practice. As meaningful use measurement evolves, the integration of data from the Quality Benchmarks Collaborative registry with the McKesson Performance Analtyics solution will also provide the measurement of outcomes. This advanced analytics solution
Features – Point-of-care quality metrics for quick, accurate comparison – Statistical tools measure results across caregivers, populations and time segments – Peer group selection based on bed size, region, organization type and scope – Web-based dashboard for viewing results, monitoring performance trends and conducting diagnostic analyses – Incorporation of the financial and operational dimensions of care establishes a baseline for health reform metrics – Outcomes-based scorecard using benchmarks data
incorporates the financial and operational dimensions of care and establishes a baseline for health reform metrics. Linking process measures (such as the timely administration of thrombolitics in stroke patients) to other patient demographic and diagnosis data answers a critical question: “Does EHR use make a difference in patient outcomes?” The ability to measure length of stay, mortality, readmissions and other indicators of effective EHR use provides a comprehensive view of your clinical performance and insight into cause and effect — the first step to shared accountability for optimum results.
