Washington, D.C.
Analysis of JMT Design
Located in Southwest Washington DC, Buzzard Point Park is the site of a former marina closed as of 2016. The National Parks Service has been interested in enhancing the underutilized space by creating a welcoming waterfront that provides refuge from the urban and densly populated Southwest DC area. The community, stakeholders, and planners involved throughout the transformation of Buzzard Point Park hope to bring people to experience the natural environment beyond the city and create an enjoyable experience with waterfront access and amenities.

Site Context
The National Parks Service worked with Johnson, Mirmiran, & Thompson, Inc. (JMT) Design Firm to create a thorough master plan of the site and its proposed amenities. Through personal experience on site and observation an alternative synthesis of design ideas can be used to develop an ecologically coherent waterfront with a living shoreline and functional outdoor spaces.
