Innovation Lab

All libraries in the MCCS Okinawa Library Program have 3D Printing and selected makerspace equipment, but the library on Camp Foster is home to the original Innovation Lab, a collaborative space where creativity meets technology. The Innovation Lab gives patrons free access to 3D printing, robotics assembly, virtual reality and augmented reality equipment, vinyl cutting, largeformat printing, GoPro cameras, 3D modeling, computer-aided design and more.

MCCS Okinawa operates six Marine Corps libraries on island, plus one at Camp Fuji, Japan and one at Camp Mujuk, South Korea, which all offer full library services. Once registered at any MCCS library, patrons will have access to all MCB Camp Butler libraries. All locations offer free Wi-Fi, computers, iPads and GoPros for checkout and complimentary printing up to 10 pages. The libraries offer professional military reading titles, popular periodicals, DVD, CD, video game, and audio book titles for professional, recreational and educational purposes.

EDUCATION & CAREER The Education and Career Services Program offers valuable education programs and library support services to service members, DoD civilians and their families. Items that are not available at MCCS libraries can be obtained from other USMC libraries and other service libraries. Arrival time varies based on the lending library’s location. Each library has special programs and events offered throughout the year. The Camp Foster Library’s Art Connections displays local artists’ work in a variety of media. Library events for Adults includes language courses, crafts, 3D modeling and coding classes, and presentations as well as special holiday celebrations. The libraries also offer a wide range of programming geared toward younger library users, including weekly Lapsit (ages 2 years and younger), Tales for Tots (ages 2-3), Preschool Story Times, Family Story Times and teen events. To encourage avid readers and readers that need more motivation to keep the pages turning, the libraries offer the annual Summer Reading Program which regularly attracts in excess of 3,000

participants including adults. The library’s online catalog and electronic resources can be accessed through home computers, smart phones and tablets at any time. Electronic resources include language courses through Mango Languages; digital magazines from RB Digital; free online courses (non-collegecredit) via Universal Class; scholarly texts and research articles found in the EBSCO and Gale databases; and tutor.com for children of Active Duty service members. Commandant of the Marine Corps Professional Reading List titles are available online through the Navy MWR Digital Library, NKO and Overdrive e-books as well as multiple copies in the physical collection. Visit the nearest MCCS Education Center to begin or continue your academic journey. Education Services Specialists can assist active-duty service members, veterans and family members with establishing education and career goals. They can help with selecting a college or university, aid in the college application process, deciding on a major, selecting classes, applying to Marine Corps commissioning programs, using tuition assistance, locating scholarships and financial assistance opportunities, testing for college credit or understanding the complexities of veterans’ benefits such as the G.I. Bill. MCCS Education Centers also provide a wealth of information on how Marines can participate in the United Services Military Apprenticeship Program (USMAP), Marine Corps Credentialing Opportunities Online (MCCOOL) and the Leadership Scholar Program (LSP).
