Summer would not be the same without the WaterWorks pool and the Summer Kickoff Pool Party. Needless to say, the community was ready for a fun-filled, outdoor event to celebrate the start of summer in Japan. With food, music, games, and giveaways, it was just the event we needed for some fun in the sun. Nathan Berry, Aquatics Manager, shares how the WaterWorks pool plays such an integral role in summer activities.

"After a year of hiatus, the Aquatics Team was excited to bring back the WaterWorks Summer Kick-Off Party. This event signaled the return of the summers we remembered and love." M C C S I WA K U N I .C O M | D E C E M B E R 2 0 2 1

Crossroads Closure July 1 The Crossroads Food Court closed its doors on July 1 to make way for an exciting renovation project. The team in Business Operations successfully managed to relocate Subway to The Hangar, open Lunch Service at the Hangar 2F, expand offerings at the Torii Pines Café to include Baskin Robbins products, and move pizza delivery operations to Pizza Hut Strike Zone. Matthew Buckley shares closure challenges and what’s to come to the new and improved Crossroads Food Court set to open in 2023.

"The challenge we faced during Crossroads closure [was] that Subway’s reopening was delayed one month. The new Crossroads Food Court will have three new concepts for the community: Popeyes, Charleys, and Dunkin' Donuts."

Crazy Card Nights August 21 The Hangar plans a number of exciting events throughout the year for servicemembers E5 and below. Crazy Card Nights was a hilariously fun way for friends to get together and play adult comedy card games. Jessie Mottola, Manager of The Hangar Club, shares why events like these are so important for morale.

"Our Hangar events are uniquely tailored and created for the Enlisted (E5 and below) in mind for a special experience and something for them to look forward to in their own Club. The events create an environment of energy, rejuvenation, and fun that is essential for motivating positive morale and overall well-being."

This walk-through haunted house brought to life some of Japan’s creepiest movies and folklore to MCAS Iwakuni. Taisha Jacobs, SMP Facility Manager, talks about the resounding success thanks to the dedication of the volunteers from the SMP.

"The SMP Radio Tower of Terror successfully terrified well over 900 victims this year in their Japanese Horrors-themed haunted [house]. Room theme consisted of many Japanese legends and folklores to include Ringu, Sukima-onna, Kuckiasake-onna, and Rokuro-kubi.
