INSV Tarini crew honoured at special reception in Perth

Lt. Cdr. Roopa and Lt. Cdr. Dilna, the crew members of the INSV Tarini, were formally recognised for their remarkable achievements during the Navika Sagar Parikrama-II expedition at a reception hosted at the Consulate premises in Perth, recently.

The event, attended by a large gathering of the Indian diaspora, was led by Senator Varun Ghosh, Consul General Amarjeet Singh Takhi, and the Acting High Commissioner. Community leaders, including Cr. John Keogh (City of Armadale), Cr. Jibi Joi (City of Armadale), and Cr. Raj Doshi (City of Perth), joined the celebration, along with representatives from various local Indian organisations such as the Indian Society of WA (ISWA), Hindu Council of Australia Perth, Sikh Association of WA, and Tamil Association of Western Australia.

The program began with a vibrant performance by students from the Academy of Indian Classical & Bollywood Dance, who also performed traditional naval dances. In their speeches, Consul General Takhi, Senator Ghosh, and the Acting High Commissioner lauded the officers’ pioneering expedition, emphasising their impact on women and youth across the globe.

The INSV Tarini crew members shared their inspiring stories of perseverance, courage, and teamwork, providing insight into their experiences during the historic global circumnavigation journey.

The event was emceed by Ritika Menon, an Indian student from the University of Western Australia, who brought a personal connection to the evening, given her background in the Indian Defence Force family and as a former NCC cadet.

This special reception highlighted the crew's trailblazing role in naval history, honouring their extraordinary contribution to India's maritime achievements.
