NSW parliament hosts celebration of Guru Nanak Dev’s birth anniversary

The 555th birth anniversary of Guru Nanak Dev Ji, the revered founder of Sikhism, was commemorated in an event organized by the AustralianIndian Sports Educational & Cultural Society (AISECS) at the parliament of New South Wales, recently. The Australia India Business Council (AIBC) participated in the celebration, emphasizing the enduring relevance of Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s teachings.

The event honoured Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s profound messages of truthfulness, selfless service, equality, and harmony with nature. These teachings continue to inspire communities across the globe, promoting values that resonate deeply in Australia’s multicultural society.

Key speakers included Dr. Janakiraman Sarvesvaran, Consul General of India in Sydney, Daniel Mookhey MP, Treasurer of NSW, and Gurmesh Singh MP, Deputy Leader of NSW Nationals. They highlighted Guru Nanak Dev Ji’s timeless legacy and the contributions of the Sikh community to Australia’s cultural and social fabric.

The gathering also underscored the importance of such events in fostering closer ties between Australia and India, celebrating shared values of inclusion, diversity, and mutual respect. The AIBC reiterated its commitment to supporting initiatives that strengthen cultural and social bonds between the two nations.
