Building Your Dream Home If you are lucky, there will come a time in your life, where you will have the opportunity to build your own dream house. You probably already have many plans for your dream home, but you will need to make these plans concrete before you begin construction. If you have not considered what you would like in your dream house before, you may want to take some time to consider that now so that you can work towards that dream. You will want to consider the layout of the kitchen, the colors you would use, and the type of counters and cupboards that you would install.

Things to Consider You will also want to consider the number of bedrooms and bathrooms you want and how close together they will be. In addition, you will also want to make sure that you discuss with your partner small details such as the size of the closet, whether you want a yard, and the location of your home. Your partner may have a few surprise desires for you as well, such as a fireplace, garage, and home theatre. The layout you choose will also affect the style that you want. There are many different styles you can choose from, but you will want it to flow together so that your home does not look oddly pieced together. Once you know what the layout should be like and how big you would like each room to be, you will want to start drawing the blue prints. Contrary to belief, you do not need to have an architect draw it for you. Later on you may want to have an architect review your blueprint to make sure that it is structurally sound, but you can draw it yourself. By drawing if yourself you will not have worry about miscommunication. You will be able to ensure that your home will be laid exactly how you want it to be.

Designing Your Home If you are nervous about drawing it yourself, you can use a web application or purchase a software package that can help you draw the blueprint for your dream house. Many of these packages will add three dimensions so that you can get an idea of how the home will look like.

You will be able to make sure that the home is really what you want before you begin building it. It is critical that you make sure that it is what you really want before you build it as it is very expensive to alter plans once you get started. Even if you use a home builder piece of software, you will want to have the approval of your builder before you get started. He or she will be able to point out various flaws in the design so that you can address them before it is too late and before it costs you a lot of money. Not only will he or she be able to point out structural problems, but he or she will be able to inform you about local building restrictions and codes that your design will have to comply with. However, if you decide you would rather not draw the plan yourself, but give your approval for the design, make sure you are selective in an architect. Find someone that you do not have a problem telling that you do not like the design. This is your dream home and you will want it to be exactly the way you want it to be. You should also find a architect that you trust and that you can work well with. It may take some time to find the right architect. Once you have a solidified plan, you will also want to make sure that you choose a builder that you trust and who will do the job well. Make sure you choose a professional builder that has a lot of experience with the kind of design that you have selected. Be sure to ask your friends and family if they would trust the builder that you have selected. Their past experiences will help you know whether or not you can fully trust this builder. Do not select anyone who wants money up front, as this is a sign that they may not do a good job. Instead, pay 10 percent down and then 25 percent as each major portion of the house is completed. Make sure that you keep 15 percent of the price until they are completely done with everything. You want to make sure that you are receiving quality service the entire time.
