Blue WoodCowboys were commonly laborers, formerly incarcerated people, people of color, or queer people. Unbeknownst to most, queerness is integrated into the history of cowboys. Being a cowboy often meant long-term commitments, meaning being away from women for long periods of time. Along with this, cowboys often chose to live together for business reasons or moved from ranch to ranch together in order to have a dual income. Whether they were straight or queer, doing this had a financial advantage. Because of both of those things, queer cowboys had various ways to avoid speculation about their sexualities
