T.A.A.F. PROGRAMS The McAllen Parks and Recreation is proud to offer Texas Amateur Athletics Federation (T.A.A.F.) programs. Athletes will compete against other individuals and teams from across the Rio Grande Valley and the state in various sports including track & field, golf, swimming and tennis. Teams will attend local tournaments and meets, earning the opportunity to compete at the regional level. Qualifying athletes will earn a chance to compete in the Games of Texas, a weeklong Olympic style competition featuring a number of sports. The 2011 Games of Texas will be held July 28 – 31 in Waco, Texas. Experienced athletes are invited to join Team McAllen. A complete schedule of meets and competitions will be provided once classes begin. Individual T.A.A.F membership is included in the class fee. Other fees including individual meet fees are the responsibility of the participant.

Hackberry Ave. DATE: May 23-July 31, Monday - Friday CLASS #: 350506.06 TIMES: 8:00 a.m. - 9:30 a.m. & 5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. AGE: 5 years - 18 years FEE: $60.00/resident • $85.00/non-resident. Includes T.A.A.F. membership, insurance and t-shirt. Registration fee does not include individual meet entry fees. Participants who qualify for advanced competition are responsible for their own travel expenses. NOTE: Participants must be registered by Thursday, June 30 to be eligible for state meet. Local meets will be held on Fridays, June 10 - July 8. The regional meet will be held on Friday & Saturday, July 15 - 16 at McAllen Veterans Memorial Stadium.
TEAM GOLF Improve your golfing skills while competing in tournaments against participants from across the Rio Grande Valley throughout the summer. There are multiple opportunities to qualify to compete at the Games of Texas state meet in Waco. Participants are required to complete a playing test prior to joining the team. Tests will be held on Monday, June 6. LOCATION: Palm View Golf Course - 2699 S. Ware Road DATES: June 6 - July 31, Monday through Friday TIME: 4:30 p.m.-6:00 p.m. FEES: $80/resident • $120/non-resident Includes T.A.A.F. membership. Participants will be responsible for tournament entry and green fees. CLASS #: 350646.06 NOTE: Participants must be registered by Thursday, June 30, 2011 to be eligible for state tournament. Collared shirt and soft spike shoes are required on the course. Weekly golf tournament locations TBA.

T.A.A.F. SUMMER SWIM TEAM Receive specialized instruction while improving your swimming skills. Compete in meets against swimmers from across the Rio Grande Valley throughout the summer. There are multiple opportunities to qualify to compete at the Games of Texas state meet in Waco. Team members must be able to swim 50 yards comfortably and have no fear of the water. Swimmers cannot have participated in U.S. Swim Meets as of January 1, 2011. SWIM TEAM T.A.A.F. PARENTS’ MEETINGS: All parents of athletes participating in T.A.A.F. programs will be REQUIRED to attend an informational meeting on Tuesday, June 14 at 7:00 p.m. at Palm View Community Center. We will provide you with information for the upcoming summer and your child’s programs. Parents of athletes that qualify for the Games of Texas will be required to attend a meeting to discuss travel, expenses and general information. The 2011 TAAF Games of Texas will be held Thursday – Sunday, July 28 - 31 in Waco. NOTE: The minimum age to travel with Team McAllen is eight years of age. Additional costs will apply for nonresident athletes. MEETING DATE: Thursday, July 21 at Palm View Community Center at 7:00 p.m.
