M. BROCK JOHNSON

HI THERE! So glad you made it here, my name is Matthew Brock Johnson.

As a f irst-generation college student, I wasn’t sure what the future may hold, but I was sure of my ability to achieve anything I set my mind to. I knew I could rely on my creativity, enthusiasm, and dedication. Although my degree is Integrated Strategic Communications, I went through three and a half years of Architecture school. At f irst, my pride detained me f rom switching because I thought I was failing myself. However, the real fail would be not being able to do what I love: designing for social.

I got this shirt from Goodwill

From then on, I have blossomed into an aspiring creative, that puts that perseverance to work. I’ve become well-versed in graphic and product design, typography, creative direction, community management, content creation and logistics coordination. After many years of architecture school, I became best f riends with the Adobe Creative Suite. All the hard work and late nights I did in architecture school successfully prepared me to take on many ventures my f inal year of college. While being a full time student, I also held two jobs, an internship, many volunteer/leadership roles, and an intense national student advertising competition for a real-life client. This lead me to where I am today, pursuing a career in creative campaign management.

What is Digital Signage? Engaging colleagues and students is no small feat. In the digital age, capturing their attention demands real-time, relevant information. Digital signage at University of Kentucky is a visual medium we use to communicate more effectively with dynamic and engaging messages.

SOCIAL MEDIA

Instagram Stories Stories are often overlooked as a marketing stategy, but can be a fantastic way to engage followers. They take less effort, feel more personal and are usually seen faster than a feed post. Stories also can be interactive! During the pandemic, I made it a point to design content that could be re-shared.

@universityofky In May 2020, I was added to the social media team. I made it a point to improve our communication processes by identifying the areas that weren’t consistent. From there, I began designing content crossfunctionally for both social media and digital signage.

I f ind meaning by designing stellar content that also educates followers on social issues. Last June I spoke up about my want to do something special for Juneteenth, and the above graphic was the f inal result. This graphic alone received over 256,000 impressions, and was shared by Coach Calipari!

Pride Month post I’m very proud to be a part of the LGBTQIA+ community and was very fortunate to spearhead our post for Pride Month. Working for the communication department for a university located in a red state can prevent posts like this one f rom being posted. Despite the issues that could have occured in posting this, we received over 32,000 impressions.
