FIRST IMPRESSION IS NOT ALWAYS THE LAST IMPRESSION

SYED MAHMOOD NAQVI Vice President | MB Enterprises

A common saying in regards to the first impression is ‘First impression is the last impression.’ This doesn't always apply everywhere as it’s not every time that the first impression is the last. But, what’s true is that the first impression is a memorable one indeed & holds an image of a person.

For example, if it’s your first interview after your graduation & your father wants you to remember the saying ‘First impression is the last impression,’ just for the sake of the best & most proactive results, so that you get the job that you have been studying for since your graduation. However, a key fact is that it doesn’t apply everywhere, as obviously, the saying is not applicable in the business world.

Few people in their first meeting are so open and most intelligent people don't reveal all the dimensions of their personality. They say, ‘You still have to see, The Best of Me,’ as the best comes when it’s the best time to demonstrate true talent.

DON’T JUDGE THE PEOPLE BY THEIR FIRST IMPRESSION:

Another famous saying is ‘Never judge a book by its cover.’ Similarly, don’t judge people by your first impression be it through meeting, talking to them or interacting.

You should not be passing judgment with your first impression when it comes to someones attire or attitude or someone who has not shaved for more than a month. Wait and hold your judgment. Not everyone is qualified to judge someone on their first meeting.

Similarly, it’s true if you are getting married & looking for your soulmate. Never make a first impression in the first meeting. Just give yourself time to think, evaluate & understand the person in at least 3-4 meetings to make a decision or final verdict.

NOT EVERYONE IS CAPABLE ENOUGH TO MAKE AN IMPRESSION AS POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE:

Not everybody is capable of making an impression, positive or negative. It doesn’t exactly mean that the person is someone who lacks an education background or is somebody who is weak in terms of academics. On the contrary. The supreme fact is that not everyone can make a positive or a negative decision over someone’s personality, attributes or behaviours. Simply put, they lack the attitude of judging human behaviours & how behaviours count forward. They can’t make the right judgement, or they might need more time than normal people.

IT’S IMPORTANT TO JUDGE PEOPLE ACCORDING TO WHAT YOU WANT FROM THEM:

What’s more important is to judge people according to what you need from them, how the person is good for you & if you have a valid point while making that decision. You should know what personality of a person you like in him. There are many different aspects & dimensions to a person’s personality; you just have to spend the right time with the person to know about those dimensions. These dimensions differ from one personality to another personality. However, it’s the changing behaviours that help you in judging that. Either it’s a personality trait that you need to avoid, or it’s a personality or characteristics that you admire.

It’s best to give adequate time to an individual before making a final decision regarding his/her personality. What values matter to you is something that you must decide in the first place. However, it’s best to look at people with a positive dimension rather than a negative eye. It's a practice that will help you align your thinking toward being more positive.

BEFORE MAKING A FINAL JUDGEMENT, SPEND ADEQUATE TIME:

Before making a final judgement, don’t be someone who wants to avoid or doesn’t want to give time. You need to give yourself adequate moments of your time so you don’t regret it later in life. This is true as a professional, as a businessman & also as someone who is looking for a sincere friend. However, your words of wisdom should be closer to the saying, ‘Never judge a book by its cover.’

Expand your visions with regards to making judgements for people. A thing that will be really worthwhile for you in your professional life as well as your personal life, will obviously be something that will help you make relationships & not only that; the relationships are taken forward to the next level. Ironically, this means that if you have judged someone well enough, that person might become your closest friend. Thus, later on, they might even become your business partner. A partnership that you might turn into a partnership of success or a partnership of a lifetime, all comes from making the right judgment with regards to a person’s personality or a certain characteristic or dimension of a person’s personality that might be important for you. Obviously, you need to be far more practical in making judgements, as there is always room for improvement.
