Dundee’s economic regeneration has cemented its position as the commercial centre for the region and as a key player in Scotland’s cities.

The city offers a wide range of property options, at competitive rental and purchase prices. There is a choice of serviced development land and modern commercial and industrial property on high quality business parks, industrial estates and on specialist sites, ensuring the best possible range of solutions. DundeeOne is one of the most advanced office spaces in Scotland with more than 50,000 sq ft of high specification office suites. This bold new building is a centrepiece for Dundee’s commercial property portfolio and is in a prime location on the waterfront and adjacent to the city centre itself.

Seabraes

Dedicated small workshop/incubator spaces for digital media companies are being created at Seabraes Dundee Creative Media district. The proposed masterplan is formed entirely of modular construction and prefabricated elements including a central core of offices created using recycled shipping containers. Alongside this, The Vision Building is home to games developer Outplay and next door in Seabraes House lies the Dundee HQ of Scottish Television.

Technology Park

Dundee Technology Park is one of Scotland’s premier business parks and is located approximately 4 miles west of Dundee city centre. The Park is well situated to benefit from Dundee's unique strategic position at the heart of the motorway network, which connects Dundee to Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow. The Park is designed for companies in the high growth technology sector and provides a campus style environment with high quality landscaping and prestigious buildings. Dundee Technopole is situated adjacent to the University of Dundee and the Wellcome Trust Biocentre.

The Technopole is a strategic site within the city dedicated to technology and research related development. The majority of the current occupiers fall within the Biotechnology sector. Dundee is a cost-effective location, with low property and staff costs compared to the other larger cities in Scotland. There is an extensive package of support and assistance, including access to grant aid (assisted area status). Dundee has a strong labour pool, including graduate output from three key Scottish Universities, two of which are based within the city and the other being St Andrews, only 14 miles away. The city also boasts an extensive scientific community and a skills base with strong industry links. Those moving here will find excellent housing, education and leisure amenities available in Dundee and the surrounding area and an attractive lifestyle in a very appealing setting.

House Price report)

House sales, mean price, 2013: £129,378 (Source SNS Local Authority Profile) A good choice of housing is available for those relocating here. In the city centre there is a mix of housing styles from new build flats and town houses in City Quay adjacent to the river, to houses and flats in the same area, converted from, for example, the Clocktower. Built in 1877 with the intention of making its clock-face visible to any vessel in the harbour or the mouth of the River Tay, it provides some of the most outstanding views across both the city and the river. The building has been restored and now houses nine luxury apartments and three double-storey penthouses providing some of the most outstanding views across both the city and the river. To the west of the city the choice ranges from beautifully renovated ex-jute barons’ houses, which have been split into luxurious flats, to tenement flats for sale and rent, within easy walking distance of the two Universities and a popular choice with students, academics and city centre workers alike. In the east end, just 4 miles from town is Broughty Ferry. Once a fishing village, and now a popular residential area, again there is a large choice of different property types from traditional detached villas in private grounds to modern flats and terraced housing close to the river.

The area is well served with individual shops, bars and restaurants and is a popular choice with visitors all year round. The surrounding counties of Angus, Perthshire and Fife are all within an easy commute of the city and many people choose to make their homes here, appreciating the benefits of both town and country on their doorsteps.

The University of Dundee – named Scottish University of the Year 2016 by The Times & Sunday Times - is in the top 1% of higher education institutions in the world, internationally recognised for the quality of its teaching and research.

The University plays a vital role in injecting highly skilled people into the workforce, with a strong focus on the employability of its graduates. 95 per cent are in work or further study a year after graduating from Dundee, a figure that is on the rise.

More than 17,000 students are enrolled at Dundee, helping make the city Scotland’s most student-friendly. They enjoy a student experience that has been consistently ranked the best in Scotland and one of the best in the UK, and by the people that matter most – the students themselves. Students love the fact that everything – from the train station to their residences, from lecture theatres to the sports centre – is within a ten-minute walk. As one of the Nigerian students said, “It is possible to complete a degree without ever boarding a bus!”.

The University attracts students and staff from all over the world. At the latest count the community on campus included 147 different nationalities, meaning that in three-quarters of the countries of the world you will find someone who has been to, is working with, or is planning to join the University of Dundee. This is a Scottish university through and through, but also very much an international one, bringing the world to Dundee, and taking Dundee to the world.

Around 25 per cent of students engaged with Dundee are international students from outside the UK. Some of the newer countries represented among staff and students include Kyrgyzstan, Djibouti and Papua New Guinea. When we say they come from `all over the world’ we really do mean it – the University had a participant in Antarctica engaging with an online course in forensics (they were working in a research station there).

The University’s partnerships touch every continent, teaching nurses in Eritrea and Kenya, training orthodontists in Egypt, partnering a research institute to tackle diabetes in Kuwait, attracting life sciences doctoral students from Brazil, and working with leading Chinese universities.

The student population has helped make the University an economic powerhouse for the city and the wider area in east and central Scotland. The University of Dundee contributes over £740m to the Scottish economy annually and supports over 8,000 jobs in Scotland.

The University has particular strengths in the biosciences and medicine – it is the UK’s top-rated university for biological sciences research and its medical research has been ranked best in the UK for impact. A life sciences hub that has grown around the University’s expertise now accounts for around 16% of the local economy. It is also home to one of the best art & design colleges in the UK, Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design - it was at the University that the project to bring the V&A to Dundee was conceived – and is world renowned for its work in forensic science.

The University of Dundee has a clear mission - to transform lives, locally and globally, by the creation, sharing and application of knowledge. We do this with world-class teaching and pioneering research, with work that has social, cultural and economic impact,” said Professor Sir Pete Downes, Principal and Vice-Chancellor.

“We are a Scottish institution operating on a global stage. Our impact is felt from the centre of Dundee, where we are absolutely central to the city’s future plans and prosperity, to the countries of the developing world where we are helping cure devastating diseases like malaria, and giving people life-changing opportunities for education.
