Energy Dundee
Energy Dundee is a strategic partnership incorporating the public, private and academic sectors working together to unlock the opportunities in the Offshore Wind, Oil & Gas and Decommissioning Sector for Dundee and the wider region.
Located on the east coast of Scotland with a working age population of 197,300 within a 30 minute drive time catchment, Dundee is an ideal location for investment and growth for the energy sector.
The location and the city’s transforming waterfront will provide a range of new opportunities including Decommissioning, Oil & Gas and provides an ideal location to support and facilitate the Operations and Maintenance of planned Windfarms which will be developed off the coast of Dundee.
Airport
Dundee’s airport is conveniently located less than 3km from the city centre and within 5km of the port. The airport has direct daily flights (Sunday to Friday) to London Stansted and daily flights to Schiphol airport in Amsterdam.
Port of Dundee
The importance of Dundee’s strategic position on Scotland’s east coast is undeniable, lying as it does equidistant from Edinburgh and Aberdeen. The Port of Dundee offers easy access to the North Sea and all points inland.
Renewables
The Scottish Government’s National Renewables Infrastructure Plan has identified Dundee as one of the most strategically important and suitable port locations for marine renewables. The Port of Dundee provides 24-hour, unrestricted access to its deep water berths. In addition the port has direct and easy access to excellent road and rail links and direct dual carriageway trunk roads from the Port to Aberdeen, Edinburgh and beyond.
Offshore Wind
The geographical location of Scottish consented wind farms such as the Neart na Gaoithe and others to the Port of Dundee provides an ideal Operations and Maintenance (O&M) base. Dundee has a strong engineering history with local engineering and fabrication expertise, skills/ training support from its two universities and a broad range of energy sector skills courses at Dundee & Angus College. Within 5km of the Port of Dundee there is 160 hectares of development land and designated areas serviced with Enterprise Zone status providing financial incentives and a fast-track planning process. The plans for the new marina at City Quay, with phased development for 400 berths, would be an ideal positioned marine asset for accommodating future offshore renewable O&M vessels providing bespoke pontoon and berthing options for service vehicles. The city’s airport can support a base for medium size helicopters for servicing Scottish East coast offshore wind turbine projects. There is available land and buildings within the airport grounds to develop onsite offices, briefing and workshop accommodation for future helicopter operators and O&M engineering requirements.

Oil & Gas
Dundee offers business cost cutting opportunities for the Oil & Gas sector. Given the impact of the volatile oil price, this industry is evolving and modernised for a more lean and sustainable industry. Dundee’s storage, land, prime office locations costs, along with lower wage rates provide opportunities for more businesses to take advantage of its competitive advantages whilst just 1 hour’s drive from Aberdeen. These benefits also include the facilities and services at the Port of Dundee, Dundee Airport and lower cost hotel accommodation.
The Port of Dundee has deep-water berths and extensive landside project areas; the vessels can utilise the port as a key mobilisation/ demobilisation facility and take advantage of its close proximity to the city airport.
Decommissioning
Dundee’s prime geographical location, facilities and shorter travel distances to the North Sea oil fields has long been recognised by the offshore industry. Businesses have access to on-site craneage, office and staff facilities, subsea fabrications specialists, shipping agents, skilled specialist labour and logistics support. Owners of Dundee Port, Forth Ports Ltd, offer experience, capability, capacity and location: Three ports; Two estuaries; One integrated solution for all decommissioning needs. Within the Integrated Solutions they provide:

Dundee Energy Parks
Dundee Energy Parks encompass three development sites totalling 160 hectares providing opportunity for Manufacturing, Operations & Maintenance and supporting Supply Chain activities for the energy sector. In addition, the sites offer prime locations for office developments and storage opportunities. Energy Park East, 56 hectares, is currently undeveloped and is accessed via a recently constructed estate road, 4.8km distance from the Port of Dundee.
This site is designated as an enterprise area for low carbon activity providing enhanced capital allowances on plant and machinery. The site is fully serviced including mains water, sewerage, gas, electric and telecommunications links. The site is intersected by the A90 trunk road providing straightforward access to Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Energy Park West, 6 hectares, is currently accessed via a constructed estate road and is 4.8km distance from the Port of Dundee. The site is fully serviced including main water, sewerage, gas, electric and telecommunications links. This site is intersected by the A90 trunk road providing access to Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen. Linlathen, 98 hectares is 4.3km from the Port of Dundee and lies immediately adjacent to the east of the West Pitkerro Industrial Estate, and is located on the Eastern fringe of Dundee.
East Coast Renewables (East Coast Local Authorities Partnership). Dundee is one of 10 Local Authorities across the East Coast to join forces to create a strategic alliance. This regional partnership focuses on a number of strategic priorities, from supply chain development and skills, to research & development and knowledge transfer. The authorities also work in partnership with Scottish Enterprise and Scottish Development International to develop the energy sector and promote the region as a location for investment.
