File and Directory Overview The Joomla system consists of approximately 3,200 files, so the system is too large to describe file by file. Nonetheless, now that you have an understanding of Joomla from an administrator perspective from the last chapter, it’s useful to examine the directory structure so you’ll know where to look when you want to make a direct modification. Figure 3-2 shows the basic directory structure and the primary files located at the root. This figure shows the files of a virgin installation. Once you’ve installed Joomla on a web host, it’s a good idea to eliminate the installation directory, even though it’s shown here.
