UNIVERSITY DESTINATIONS 2019-21
“THINK BIG, DREAM BIG, BELIEVE BIG... ...AND THE RESULTS WILL BE BIG” Our students always say that the culture here is so different from elsewhere – our girls are uninhibited, self-confident, focused, the best of friends and the biggest supporters of one another! Most powerfully, they also consider themselves ‘safe’ in an environment where putting happiness first reaps infinite rewards. For years, The Maynard has topped the A-level Performance League Tables as the highest achieving independent school in Devon. It is this reputation that draws so many ambitious young students to join us on an unforgettably fun and successful journey to achieve their chosen dreams. As the oldest girls’ school in the country, we have been specialising in single-sex education for over 360 years and pride ourselves on being experts in educating girls. The friendly and supportive environment, the award-winning wellbeing, the vast extra-curricular opportunities and, of course, our academic success is all built from the bedrock of being 100% made for girls. Our belief that happy girls are successful girls is an ethos so wholly epitomised by our incredible results, built over hundreds of years as the leading girls’ school in the South West. It is this reputation that not only draws some of the most gifted students, but guarantees us the most talented and professional teaching staff who place academic success on an equal equilibrium with a love of learning.

At the last official measure in 2019, we were the top independent school in Devon for A-level results and 60th nationally in The Telegraph’s A-level League Tables.
By example, and despite the disruption to their final A-level year, our remarkable Class of 2021 possessed the enduring poise and self-confidence to achieve exceptional results, paving for themselves the brightest of futures on some of the most soughtafter degree courses in the UK. We were equally delighted, once again, to buck the national trend with an almost 50:50 split between girls going on to take Arts and STEM subjects; and we also saw a surge this year in interest for ‘caring’ professions with so many going on to study medicine, nursing, midwifery and physiotherapy, amongst others. Although we pride ourselves on being a smaller school, with no desire to outsize our ability to celebrate the individual, we boast an impressive record of hugely successful alumnae; from BAFTAwinning journalists, pioneering scientists, airline pilots, lawyers, politicians, army captains, sports superstars, Booker Prize authors … the list is endless. The common denominator? At The Maynard we all share one belief - that ‘the future belongs to those who believe in their dreams’. And we are steadfast in supporting our students to live their ambitions.
STATISTICS The DofE’s best independent school for Facilitating Subjects (the ones most commonly required for entry to leading universities) in the South West Officially ‘above average’ for value added at A-level (DofE Performance Tables 2019), proving we can markedly improve predicted grades Well over 80% of students obtain offers each year to Russell Group universities
