Mayetterl Fine Arts. A name created to ring a bell and be heard in the artists’ exclusive phantom membership. The artist, Mayette as a pen name and a nickname, considers herself as a prolific painter. She uses acrylic because of its diversity and personality. Although she has experiences using watercolor, pastels and oil, she fell in love with acrylic medium. Others find it hard to work with this medium, but acrylic seems to like her. In her possession, stacked over 100 pieces of artwork waiting to be displayed in a gallery. And more are coming to the inventory. She aims to make painting her fulltime livelihood. At the moment, she takes part-time work-shifts in a home health care industry. Mayette/ Teresa R. Laurente is a graduate of Masters in Business Administration with concentration in International Business. She holds a degree in Bachelor of Science in Commerce with majors in Accounting and Economics. For fourteen years she owned and operated Golden Haven Homes, Inc., an assisted living facility catering to the elderly, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s patients, and hospice care (1994 - 2008). And, for over a decade, work as a real estate consultant and broker, (2006 - 2017). Her most recent endeavor is to work as a full pledge artist in her retirement years, which is next year. The rigor of working in the health care industry is getting to be hectic, according to Mayette. And this is why she hopes to work during her retirement years fulfilling her much-awaited dream; creating artworks. She gets several invitations to art fairs from London, Canada, Lisbon-Portugal among a few. The lack of funding in the transport of her artworks is one of the big hinder to this venture. Maybe soon she will be able to join with them when all hindrances are hurdled. She also have sold several of her paintings to friends in Australia, Philippines, Canada, New York and California. She had only four (4) Art shows to her name and only in San Antonio, Texas. She currently aims to get her artworks in a gallery, and maybe get a solo show, and raise funds to maintain her standard of living as an artist sans working in a field outside her chosen profession. The dream of just painting away and creating beautiful masterpieces never goes away. And she hopes that this much-awaited wish will soon happen for her. She has been creating artworks since the age of seven (7). Everyone in her family thought she could become an architect because she draws and draws, color house structures with landscapes and flower bushes, but motherhood is much more important for her hence she lay this dream aside. Now an empty nester, she is determined to go back and finish what she dropped off. Currently, she and her two (2) daughters and their children create craftwork as a means of bonding. Both her daughters and her; also sew, make large papier-mâché’ items, bake pastries, cook and share recipes, even garden and cultivate monarch sanctuary, create greeting cards, and anything they could think of. But painting is always the main thing that gives her the feeling of satisfaction, peace and fulfillment.
