Misael es un joven talentoso, nació en Nuevo Laredo (Tamaulipas) y, cuando tenía dos años, él y su familia se mudaron a Minnesota (Estados Unidos). En entrevista para MAXWELL nos habló sobre la pasión que siente por convertir a Vallarta en un lugar lleno de arte y color.
¿Cómo inició el proyecto de los murales en Puerto Vallarta? “El proyecto tiene alrededor de dos años e inició gracias a un amigo de California, me contactó porque tenía un año viviendo en la ciudad y él estaba documentando todos los murales de Vallarta. Él busco a otros artistas, pero yo fui el único que le presentó su trabajo; lo invité a una fiesta donde iba a pintar en vivo. Luego de esto, nos dimos cuenta de que ambos teníamos las mismas ideas, queríamos documentar y apoyar el muralismo en Vallarta para que no se pierdan las piezas, ya que a veces no duran y no hay nadie que los esté preservando o alguien que este realmente apoyando”.
¿Qué es lo que más disfrutas de hacer esta actividad? “Apoyarnos, todos somos artistas. Y sí, es difícil darle una plataforma o darle la luz al otro. Para mí que no estudie a nivel profesional, aprendo con personas más preparadas que yo, gente que hace lo mismo, que tiene la misma pasión; entonces me da gusto poder apoyar a esas personas y lo que sale de allí”.
¿Cuántos artistas trabajan en el proyecto? “Hemos apoyado a más de 30 artistas de diferentes nacionalidades: australianos, canadienses, estadounidenses, mexicanos, japoneses. La mayoría viene de vacaciones y nos contacta, tratamos de apoyarlos a todos; ellos tienen esa buena vibra de salir, buscar a quienes son los locales de aquí, llegar con respeto y ganas de aprender algo”.
¿En qué se basan para realizar los murales? “Nos gusta trabajar con gente que de verdad sea muralista y que sea lo que dice que es. No se trata de pintar cualquier cosa que se nos ocurra, porque eso es muy egoísta. Tiene que ser algo que le agrade a un niño, a un joven de 20 años o a una señora de 70. En ese sentido es tratar de ser diplomático y trabajar con gente profesional y que le guste hacer cosas para el público”. Misael is a talented young man who was born in Nuevo Laredo (Tamaulipas), Mexico. When he was two years old, he and his family moved to Minnesota, USA. In an interview with MAXWELL, he told us about his passion for turning Puerto Vallarta into a place full of art and color.
How did the mural project in Puerto Vallarta begin? “The project is about two years old and started thanks to a friend from California who contacted me because he had been living in the city for a year and was documenting all the murals in Vallarta. He looked for other artists, but I was the only one to present work. I invited him to a party where i was going to paint live. We soon realized that we both had the same ideas. We wanted to document and support muralism in Vallarta so that the pieces are not lost, seeing as sometimes they do not last and there is no one preserving them, and no one really supporting the practice at all.”
What do you enjoy most about doing this? “Supporting each other. We are all artists. And yes, it is difficult to give someone else the stage or limelight. For me, as I didn’t take my studies to a professional level, I can learn from others who have studied more, from people who are doing the same, who have the same passion. So, I am happy to support those people and enjoy what comes as a result.”
How many artists are involved in the project? “We have supported more than 30 artists from various nationalities: Australians, Canadians, Americans, Mexicans, Japanese. Most come on vacation and contact us. We try to support them all; they have that positive vibe to go out and look for the locals here; they arrive with respect and an eagerness to learn.”
How do you decide on the murals? “We like to work with people who are true muralists, people who are what they say they are. It’s not about painting just anything we can think of, because that’s so egocentric. It has to be something that a child, a 20-year-old or a lady of 70 likes. In that sense, you have to be diplomatic and work with professionals who enjoy doing things for the public.”
