People's lives became more hasty and the saying "Time is money " was instituted, which meant that life was a function of work. Technical advances created a great confidence in progress, which was reflected in the cult of the machine.

Another of the characteristic aspects that originated with the Industrial Revolution was the appearance of new social classes. The urban industrial population was divided between a large majority of workers and a minority of businessmen. The differences between rich and poor were accentuated more and more, but in the middle of these two sectors a third social class emerged, called the middle class.
