It has always been my dream to see a local magazine dedicated to manga and comics made 100% by Mauritians. There have been previously published ones such as Ticomix, Koli Xplozif and AnimuJump, but all have been discontinued unfortunately. Seeing this niche culture dying and dispersed around the island made me feel a need to do something. Luckily I came across like minds and we teamed up to work on and present to you: “Halftone”, a fanzine featuring manga, comics, four panel comics and illustrations by our local artists! I hope this magazine can not only entertain you, but also allow you to discover the various talents we have here. We are not the first but we are certainly not the last! I hope we will be able to publish future issues of “Halftone” and I thank you already, you readers who are currently going through this magazine. Enjoy!
Hey there! First of all, thanks for downloading Halftone. This fanzine is the fruit of hard work, love and passion from the MMCA team. The love we have for art is unconditional. Halftone is a fanzine that we hope will help promote some hidden gems from the Mauritian art community. While browsing the fanzine, we hope that the readers will be as amazed as we were when we first saw all these brilliant illustrations. On behalf of the whole team, I would like to say a big thank you to all the participants, to the readers and of course, to the members of the MMCA group. Paj Hi. I’m Paj. It’s the short form of something else. Obviously. And I got the chance to be part of the amazing team bringing Halftone to you. Halftone is a passion project that has been long in preparation. We have discussed and talked and dreamed about it like there was no tomorrow. We have faced so many setbacks, whether it be with the production itself or on a personal basis (I myself have had to juggle work, university, and this), but finally, here we are. We are so happy and proud to present this collection of stories and artworks from our very own oh so talented local artists. Please enjoy. <3
