Each apartment block has been designed to be modular CLT construction on a concrete podium which will contain retail space, as well as residential entries and various services to the building. This is a method not yet seen in the UK. As part of a design and documentation team of 4-5, my role was to create, test and implement a method of documentation for each module type across the project. I was also involved in thorough coordination of structural, MEP and ďŹ re design and documentation.

Laindon Town Centre Regeneration is a comprehensive phased redevelopment of Laindon Shopping Centre in a run-down 1960s newtown development in Essex. It comprises 240 dwellings across both houses and apartment blocks, as well as almost 5000sqm of retail space, plus commercial and health buildings. The design has been a collaboration between Pollard Thomas Edwards and CF Moller.

BEECHWOOD WEST HOUSING ESTATE, ESSEX UK Beechwood West is a masterplan of 250 homes and green space within a wider masterplan as part of the regeneration of the town of Basildon, a commuter town located in Essex. The custom-build modular CLT construction is a first for the UK. Five house types across the site each have their own options for internal layouts, internal and external materials, extensions, bay windows, extra bedrooms and other optional additions. Purchasers buy 'off the plan' using an online 3D marketing tool that allows them to see each plot and house type, and visualise each of the purchasable options. The modular CLT construction steamlines the construction process to allow a shorter time between purchase and handover. As part of a small design and documentation team, I was involved in managing a number of highly complex Revit models, producing tender and construction documentation within the specified timeframes, and assisting with construction detailing.

JULIA RESERVE COMMUNITY CENTRE, SYDNEY


Julia Reserve Community Centre is a new development which forms part of the Oran Park Town Centre masterplan, currently being undertaken by Urban Growth NSW. The community centre will lie directly adjacent to a new skate park and provide facilities for youth and the wider community, ranging from meeting rooms and oďŹƒces to large open plan spaces for artisitic and cultural activities, seminars and performances. After early concept designs were formed I took on the role of project lead, delivering concept drawings and presentations to be presented to our client (Urban Growth) and to Camden Council, for whom the project was to be delivered. I attended various meetings with both client and council to ensure the best possible outcome was being achieved within the budget constraints. Following sign-o on concept design, I delivered a successful DA submission within a two month period, and then managed and documented initial tender documentation prior to my resignation. I was responsible for all management of the project, including client communication, coordination with various sub-consultants and invoicing. I was also responsible for Revit modelling and documentation with little assistance.

PARK LANE APARTMENTS, SYDNEY

DESIGN DEVELOPMENT

Park Lane is a new development that will provide 149 apartments for the growing Arnclie area. Located alongside a new city park and within short walking distance to both Wolli Creek and Arnclie train stations, the apartments will provide a style of city living that is becoming much sought after throughout the inner suburbs. Working as part of the Mode Design team from design development through tender documentation and construction detailing, I have gained valuable experience working closely with the client and consultants to contribute towards a successful project outcome. IIHP SURGICENTRE, WOLLONGONG

Illawarra International Health Precinct Masterplan

The Illawarra International Health Precinct is a planned 8 stage development in Huntley, south-west Wollongong, which will include services ranging from aged care and education facilities to radiology, obstetrics and a full 304 overnight bed private hospital. Stage 1 of the development is a Specialist and Surgicentre, containing 46 overnight beds, 4 ICU beds and 6 operating theatres. Joining the Imagescape team following DA approval, I worked closely with the project architects and structural and services consultants to develop the design and detail and resolve issues regarding structure, accessibility, BCA compliance and achieving a 5 star green rating.



SITE Opened by the NSW Health Minister, Jillian Skinner, in February 2015, a[Test] Oxford Street was Australia’s first permanent peer-run rapid testing centre for HIV and other sexually transmitted infections. As project manager, I took the development from concept design through to completion. The existing site was a rundown retail store within one of Oxford Street’s heritage listed buildings which had lay empty for 18 months. The design evolved throughout the development, taking action where necessary to resolve issues regarding cost, compliance with Australians Standards and the BCA, and any unforeseen problems that arose on site. Taking on board the client’s wishes for creativity, comfort and privacy while working within a tight budget, I collaborated closely with both client and builder to deliver a successful outcome.

Taking initial rough concept sketches from my company directors, I progressed the project through design development, DA and CC documentation and construction detailing. I worked closely with both the client and various suppliers to ensure that correct material selections were made and costs were controlled. Documentation progressed to a very detailed level to minimise the amount of input required by Imagescape 3 during construction and to give the client confidence in managing the contractors on site.

The Willows is a four room bed and breakfast in the rural setting of Pyree, on the south coast of NSW. The existing four bedroom house, sitting on a 2 acre block, was transformed into luxury accommodation for travelling guests and is aimed primarily at accommodating for the many surrounding wedding venues between Nowra and the nearby beaches.

SAGO STUDIO, PAPUA NEW GUINEA Sago Network promotes the role that architects, designers and building professionals have in community projects throughout the developing world and challenges the idea that the value of architecture lies solely in modern society. By working closely with community members, a team of design professionals can exchange ideas and knowledge, and contribute towards an improved quality of life for the communities and a healthy and sustainable future.

Sago Studio 2011 involved four community development projects in the villages of Laukanu and Kelkel on Papua New Guinea’s Huon Gulf. Masterplanning: mapping geographical features of the villages and helping to plan for future development. Water: supplying Laukanu village with clean drinking water and realising the potential for water collection. Washing: providing adequate washing facilities and separation of drinking water from washing water (pictured left). Waste: construction of new latrines with hand washing facilities and education on the significance of adequate sanitation in the communities (see next page).

Identification: initial rapid build projects allowed the team to build relationships with the locals and become familiar with local materials.

Consultation: discussing the ideas with the villagers clarified the wants, needs and possible outcomes of the projects.

Design: designs were conveyed using methods that could be easily understood by the locals.

Construction: working closely with locals allowed us to learn from each other.



Understanding Budapest It is the contrast between the city’s two sides (Buda & Pest) that makes Budapest such a unique city. The different history of the two towns is still very much evident in today’s city. In the west, Buda: a hilly area full of history dating back over a thousand years; with winding streets and vast green spaces that have been saved from development by their awkward topography. In the east, Pest: a radiating grid of concrete that sprawls further east over the vast plain; some rare moments of green scattered throughout; and for much of it an even density of buildings much like Paris or Barcelona. And where east meets west, there is the Danube River: a huge mass of swiftly flowing water dissecting the two sides of the city, with ten bridges connecting the two sides within the city’s borders.

Delirious Budapest The underground system is expanded to include major roads along the Danube’s banks and many of the ring roads that radiate out from the city centre. Tram networks on these roads are replaced by more underground rail. The ring roads are replaced by canals and spacious pedestrian and cycling corridors, lined with trees and open green space. The shops and businesses now open out onto the reflections of water, much like in Amsterdam, with most of the traffic moving only at walking speed. The previously undefined city centre is now an island. It has a more grand appeal. Along the river, the noise of cars and trams has disappeared (it has been muffled by the earth that sits above it). It is now possible to sit at a café that is on the edge of the river and have an undisturbed view across to the other side of the city. Walking and cycling now seems like a much more attractive option as it can be done along the water without any danger or noise pollution. Jetties protrude out into the Danube to provide more public space for those who want the river views while avoiding the passing pedestrians and cyclists or don’t want to pay to sit in a café. Citizens don’t have to escape to the Buda Hills or Margaret Island to find attractive green space. It is now widespread. There are more trees to offset the pollution emitted by the cars. And most importantly, the river can be reached. In this landlocked country where the nearest coastline is hundreds of kilometers away, the people of its capital city can finally have a connection to the water.
