NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS — Northwestern State committed 13 first-half turnovers, while Stephen F. Austin got 14 second-half points from Porsha Roberts as the Lady Demons fell 68-51. Senior Trudy Armstead finished with a double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds), but Stephen F. Austin turned NSU’s 13 turnovers into 16 points in building a 10-point halftime lead. Then Roberts poured it on in the second half to put away the Lady Demons (14-12, 7-7 Southland Conference). “It’s disappointing. I felt like our kids were ready to play and we had a good week of practice,” NSU co-coach Brooke Stoehr said. “You know it’s always going to be tough when you come into the arena here at SFA. I thought they were the more aggressive team tonight.” Armstead and Janelle Perez (11 points, 5-of-8 shooting) were the only players to score in double figures for NSU in the game. Freshman forward Kourtney Pennywell battled foul trouble, playing only 16 minutes and scoring eight points. “Not having Pennywell in the first half and much of the second half really hurt. She dictates a lot for us offensively and I thought her absence was big tonight,” Stoehr said. Roberts led the way for the Ladyjacks (15-11, 9-5) with 18 points in the game followed by Brentney Branch with 13 and Kali Jerrell with 11 points. Jerrell and Branch combined to go 5-of-10 from the 3-point line. The loss dropped NSU into sole possession of eighth place in the conference standings with four games remaining in the regular season. NSU will finish its five-game road stint at Southeastern Louisiana on Thursday and at New Orleans Saturday.
