Interrupting Goose For two performers on one Theremin
Matthew A. Bardin 2020
Interrupting Goose is intended to be performed by two people sharing one Theremin. During the duration of the performance, the Theremin should be lit against a screen or wall so that each performer’s hand signs (described below) can be seen by the audience. As time progresses through the performance, the performers will work to create the shadow puppets as shown by the images below: Performer 1: Goat, Hound, Elephant
Performer 2: Dog, Rabbit, Camel
Each performer should then move their hands around the Theremin’s sounding area as if they were pretending to be that specific animal. Some suggestions are hopping motions, chasing or sniffing, or just lazing about. Occasionally through the piece, each performer will be instructed to make the following Goose sign. When this happens, the performer should act as obnoxious as possible, trying to run the other performer’s hands out of the sounding area.

Each system is approximately 30 seconds long, with the approximate elapsed time shown at the end of each system for the performer’s convenience. (total duration approx. 4:30)
