Almost Awake for solo piano
Matthew A. Bardin (ASCAP) 2020
Program Notes: When you are dreaming a wonderful dream, but deep down know that you will eventually have to wake up. Sometimes we want to stay there, despite being almost awake.
Performance Notes: • • • •
The performer should play with a moderate-large rubato throughout the duration of Almost Awake. Extra time may be taken to accommodate the rolls, but so much time that the forward momentum breaks in the middle of a phrase. Accidentals carry through the measure, but not the octave. The opening repeat is optional but encouraged. If ignored, perform the opening material slightly faster before slowing down to the indicated tempo at ‘a tempo I’
