MathWorks products. If you have made changes to the license that require you to get a new License File, you will see a message below the button instructing you to download and install a new License File. If you have activated software in R2008a or later, you can automatically activate subsequent releases for the same computer and user.

Deactivate

Deactivation is the process of rendering MathWorks software unusable on an activated computer. The easiest way to deactivate software is to choose this option while running MathWorks software on a computer that has an Internet connection. You can also deactivate software in the License Center.

Validation Status Validation is a periodic check by The MathWorks to ensure the authenticity of a License File in use. The status indicates whether validation of this activation has completed, failed, or is overdue for the selected release.

Editing an Activation Type During the activation process, you chose an activation type. Administrators and asset managers may need to change the activation type to support changes in your organization, such as allowing a single user to use the software on both her desktop and laptop computers. When you change the activation type, you must first deactivate the software to prevent use of the original configuration and activate it again to choose the new activation type. If you have enabled the Validate from Product setting, deactivation is automatic and you can activate immediately in the License Center. If the Validate from Product setting is disabled, deactivation is a manual process. Note: For licenses that are not yet activated, you can change the the activation type any number of times by following the first two steps below.

How do I do this? To set or change the activation type on a license when validation is enabled: 1. 2. 3. 4.

In the Licenses table, select the license. In the Activation and Installation tab, click the edit icon next to the Activation Type. In the Deactivate dialog, click the Deactivate button to deactivate software. In the Select New Activation Type dialog, choose a new activation type, and click Done.

Since validation is enabled, the License File will be updated at the next validation check.

Validation Deactivating Software

Validation Validation is an automatic, periodic check to ensure the authenticity of License Files in use. Administrators may transfer products from one license to another, transfer licenses from one licensed end user to another, or transfer licenses from one computer to another. These transfers are called redesignations, and each redesignation requires the administrator to deactivate software to prevent use of the original configuration. Traditionally, administrators have had to contact Customer Service to make these changes. Validation automates the process through the License Center. If validation is enabled, the software automatically checks every 30 days to ensure the authenticity of the License File and updates it with any transfers made since the last check.

How do I do this? To change the Validate from Product setting: 1. In the Licenses table, select the license. 2. In the Activation and Installation tab, click the edit icon for Validate from Product. 3. Choose the setting that best suits your situation, and click Continue. o Enabling validation is recommended for computers connected to the Internet.

Disabling validation is recommended for computers not connected to the Internet.

If you change the setting to enable validation, you will need to get a new License File that contains the change. If you change the setting to disable validation, you do not need to get a new License File because the file will be updated automatically at the next periodic check.
