Oliver and Kate Lawford

José Comin and Paige Nichols

The Location... Portland, Oregon in the oldest Presbyterian church on the West Coast, The Old Church. The reception followed at The Cleaners at Ace Hotel. We met... I spent my first year out of high school working and going to school in Carnforth, England at Capernwray Hall. Oliver studied there as well, and one afternoon he took me on a picnic by a lake with two flocks of the Queen's swans. The proposal... The time for the engagement came in January in Northern Idaho, so he scattered one hundred candles, built a beautiful fire, bought a bottle of champagne, and created an incredible picnic indoors. My dress... I wanted something elegant and sophisticated, but still whimsical. The low back and oversized bow of the Oleg Cassini gown charmed me. It felt very "us" because... My husband is a Brit, so we decided to go with their traditional morning suits instead of the more typical dinner jacket. We loved the juxtaposition of our venues--the old and the new. The honeymoon... We actually stayed in Portland for our honeymoon! We stayed a few nights at the Hotel Lucia and enjoyed all that the city had to offer.

The Location... Christ Church in Georgetown, Washington, DC and Washington Golf and Country Club, Arlington, VA We met... We were introduced in Buenos Aires by my lifelong best friend, Katie. She was friends with José and luckily invited me along for drinks with them one night. We chatted all night, and he called his mom the next day to tell her he'd met someone she'd really love. The proposal... We spent an incredible day at the Four Seasons Buenos Aires, and over brunch José slid the ring box across the table. Of course I said yes (actually, I said "sí," but no matter). My dress... was found at Hitched boutique in Georgetown on a trip home. Designed by Amy Kuschel (based in San Francisco), it was the most beautiful oneshoulder silk charmeuse column dress I'd ever seen! It felt very "us" because... parts of our families were woven through the entire day: I wore my grandmother's antique aquamarine earrings (my "something blue"), my mother mixed her extensive silver collection with the centerpieces, and we had photos from both of our parents' wedding days framed. The honeymoon... Paris, Barcelona, Lisbon, and the Algarve.
