We hope you enjoy learning about us and we look forward to meeting you and your child. In Service, Dr. Becky J. Berg Superintendent

About our Community While the Marysville-Tulalip community is growing with more than 60,000 residents, we still maintain that small-town feel. Marysville is known as, “The Strawberry City” and each year hosts the annual Strawberry Festival, now on its 86th year. Our landscape includes the beautiful Mount Pilchuck, which can be seen from various points around the city, and we are known for our local landmark, the Marysville Water Tower, created in 1974. Our community is also home to the Tulalip Tribes, a federally recognized Coastal Salish Tribe of the Puget Sound. The Tulalip Tribes are an important aspect of our community. We are grateful to have their culture and we value their strong efforts to revive and protect our region’s rich Native American history. Marysville is a wonderful place where the City Council, School District, Tulalip Tribes, business community, and other local organizations work together to support our students, their families, and all our local residents.

Early Childhood Education & Assistance (Preschool)

The Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP) is a free preschool program funded by Washington state and serves income eligible families in Marysville and Tulalip. The purpose of ECEAP is to give all of our children a solid foundation that will provide them with success in school and life. Our program’s focus goes beyond the classroom experience as we also provide family support services, opportunities for parent involvement, child health coordination, and nutrition services. We exist to provide a holistic and inclusive program through effective teaching practices and collaborative partnerships. We do this by empowering children and families to become successful life-long learners and responsible citizens within our culturally diverse community.

Elementary School With 10 elementary schools across the Marysville School District, you and your child will have the perfect neighborhood school to meet your unique needs. We are incredibly proud of all our elementary schools. While they each provide across-the-board quality education, our individual schools also maintain unique programs, services, and staff to help foster student success, and build an environment made to support educational growth.

Kindergarten is an important milestone for students and families, as it marks a child’s entry into elementary school. A child must turn five years of age by August 31 to be eligible to start Kindergarten in September.

HIGHLY CAPABLE Is your student a Highly Capable learner? Once a student is identified with the unique learning skillsets, the Marysville School District matches them up with a district services to meet their needs. This may include additional support at their neighborhood elementary school, or services housed in our program at Pinewood Elementary.

JONES CREEK ENVIRONMENTAL EDUCATION Through a partnership with the Allen Creek/Quilceda Watershed Action Team and the City of Marysville, the Marysville School District dedicated 11.5 acres of School District-owned land to Jones Creek to be used as a learning center for environmental education. Each year students from our schools visit the center and learn about water quality and salmon restoration.

21ST CENTURY STUDENTS In collaboration with the Washington Alliance for Better Schools (WABS), the Marysville School District was awarded a 21st Century Community Learning Center Grant to fund after-school and summer programs for Quil Ceda Tulalip and Liberty Elementary schools. The grant supports academics and enrichment activities for 50 students at each school over the next five years.

CODE.ORG Computer science is a foundation for every student but 90 percent of American schools do not teach it, and fewer students are learning how computers work than a decade ago. The Marysville School District is the first in the area to offer code and computer science at all of our elementary schools. Introduction to Computer Science is fun, collaborative, creative, and is designed to inspire our students to continue learning how technology improves real world relationships, connections, and life. In the Marysville School District, your student will learn how the Internet works, computer programming skills, logic, problem solving, and creativity.

MATH SCIENCE PARTNERSHIP The Marysville School District Math Science Partnership (MSP) Grant supports the improvement of mathematics and science instruction with the help of the University of Washington College of Engineering and the Institute for Systems Biology. Together, we are providing high-quality, content–based professional learning for K-12 teachers to enhance their knowledge, classroom practices, and curriculum.

WATCHDOGS WatchDOGS is a program where our students’ fathers, grandfathers, uncles, other father-figures and community members volunteer for one or more days out of the school year. During the day, WatchDOGS read with students, assist with schoolwork or class projects, eat lunch with students, and greet students at the school entrances and in hallways. The WatchDOGS program is a wonderful way to engage our families, create community, and support our children in and outside of the classroom.

Middle School The Marysville School District has four fantastic middle schools ready to serve your child. Whether they are a Wildcat, Thunderbird, Bulldog or Timber Wolf, our district looks forward to supporting them during this important time of educational growth and self-discovery.

MIDDLE SCHOOL AVID Offered at all four of our Middle Schools, the Middle School Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) Program is a college-readiness system that prepares students for four-year colleges and universities. Students are given the support and instruction they need to succeed in middle school and the inspiration to go to college. By being enrolled in rigorous classes with the tutorial support provided in the AVID elective, student grade point averages rise, increasing numbers of students enroll in honors classes and algebra, and students get involved in the school community and become role models among their peers.

MUSIC AND BAND Music is an important step toward connecting with students from all backgrounds, and helping them to develop healthy life skills. All four of our Middle Schools place a large emphasis on music and band, and work hard to prepare students to continue their music education throughout high school and beyond.

HIGHLY CAPABLE Our middle school Highly Capable Program provides Marysville and Tulalip students with support and services at their neighborhood middle school. This may include self-contained language arts and social studies learning blocks. Students with a capacity to learn with unusual depth of understanding, and willingness to deal with increasing levels of abstraction and complexity earlier than their chronological peers should considering going through the assessment process.

MOCK TRIAL 10th Street Mock Trial is a program where students are given a case, and play the witnesses and the lawyers. Students must come up with a legal strategy and enact it in court. They must also think on their feet as they react to their opponent’s legal strategy. Our students have not only been awarded Best Overall in state competitions, they have also presented at the State Capitol in Olympia in front of the Washington State Supreme Court Justices.

MIDDLE SCHOOL CLUBS & ATHLETICS Middle School is a critical time for individual growth and self-discovery. Our middle school teachers and staff understand that student success is contingent on a well-rounded middle school experience and a variety of options that help students explore their talents early in their educational career. At each of our schools, students have the capacity to try their hand at everything regardless of their financial ability, and in a welcoming, open environment.

GLENCOE MATH The Marysville School District adopted the Glencoe Math Curriculum for grades 6th through 8th. Glencoe Math meets students wherever they are in their learning by helping teachers determine proficiency before, during, and after lessons. Differentiated instruction resources ensure students master concepts before moving on, while providing more challenging concepts for beyond-level students. Glencoe Math makes math real for students with the three components of rigor — conceptual understanding, application, and procedural fluency — all embedded in the curriculum’s resources, lessons, and practice assessments.

High School The Marysville School District houses eight high schools on three campuses. Our district is unique in that your child chooses the school they want to attend based on their desired path, interests, and learning style. While each school provides a variety of unique programs for their students, the Marysville School District prides itself of its flexibility and commitment to ensuring each student receives the learning and extracurricular opportunities needed for them to have a full, successful high school experience.

AVID students receive opportunities throughout the year to visit college campuses and learn the higher education options available to them. AVID looks for students who have good state assessment scores, a solid GPA, good attendance record, and the desire and determination to take challenging courses. First generation college-bound students, historically under-represented in four-year colleges, or economically disadvantaged students are given priority in the application process.

Arts & Technology

Across our District... TECHNOLOGY In today’s rapidly advancing economy, it is more critical than ever for the education community to meet students where they are, and prepare them for the jobs of today and tomorrow. With the first district-wide wireless networks in the county encompassing all 24 facilities, and a Chromebook distributed to every each student from 3rd grade through 12th grade, the Marysville School District is on the cutting edge of technology in the classroom and community. Districts from across the state and region look at the Marysville School District’s success and seek to follow our lead. We are not simply putting technology in the classroom, we are also investing in teacher training to help our staff bolster their existing curriculum and leverage the learning already occurring in the classroom. Through our local technology levy, we have taken education to the next level, provided equity in learning and achievement, and are implementing the technological tools of today to help our students become the leaders of tomorrow.

SPECIAL EDUCATION The Marysville School District provides special education to families at no cost to parents, including all the services a student needs to access their educational program. Trained teachers and other professionals that work with parents on their student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) provide support for our special education students. Every school in our district is staffed with trained special education teachers and support staff including speech pathologists, school psychologist, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and much more.

The Marysville Special Education Parent-Teacher-Student Association (MSEPTSA) is an important part of our students’ lives and school communities. Through regular meetings with their stakeholders and direct guidance to the District, MSEPTSA plays an active role in assisting parents, mobilizing resources, connecting families, and serving as a united voice on the things that matter most to students.

It’s all about GROWTH… The Marysville Life Skills Program provides educational services to students with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Our mission is to partner with parents and local resources to help students with disabilities become capable, connected, and contributing members of their community. We do this by offering instruction in functional academics, independent living, vocational education, communty-based learning, citizenship, and self-advocacy. Life Skills students are an integral part of the larger Marysville School District learning community and have regular opportunities to participate in a variety of courses and activities with normal ability peers.

Across our District... CLUBS & ATHLETICS

The Marysville School District places a high value on its athletic programs and student clubs, and we believe our activities should mirror the attitude of the community and schools that supports them. Our programs are reflected in our goals to develop personal excellence and understanding of the value of competition and skill in our society, promote the development of good citizenship, support and contribute to the goals of a total education program, promote community interest and involvement in school clubs and athletics, and ensure every student has a right to pursue opportunities regardless of their financial ability.

Marysville Seniors age 65 or older can be part of the Senior Gold Card Club. Club members have free access to all home sporting events, plays, and other school activities.

The Marysville School District helps prepare our athletes for the recruiting process with coaches dedicated to student athletic and educational success. For students who wish to play at the college level, we engage our coaches and school guidance counselors in developing an academic plan that ensures students are prepared and eligible for NAIA or NCAA member schools.

THE BERRY BOWL Every fall, the Marysville community hosts the Berry Bowl, an annual football game between Marysville-Pilchuck High School and Marysville Getchell High School. The event celebrates Marysville and Tulalip’s past, present, and future, and brings together students, families, and community members across town for a fun, competitive event.

BOOSTER CLUBS The Marysville School District believes that people support that which they help create. From band to baseball, our parents and community members take ownership of our clubs and athletics, and play a huge role in helping our students get the most out of their K-12 experience.
