Between its foundation in 1955 and 2017, Marymount London was the home of dozens of RSHM Sisters. Their spirits, alongside those of Mother Butler and Father Gailhac, permeate the walls, rooms and lawns of our beautiful school, forming the threads that bind our community together. As the RSHM Sisters begin to entrust more and more Marymount schools to lay leaders, how can the Marymount London community continue their Mission?

To continue the inspiring mission of our founders, and as dedicated IB learners, the lay leadership of Marymount has spent much time this year reflecting on how the Marymount mission might be brought to life. In consultation with Governors, alumnae, parents, students and faculty, a five-year strategy has emerged, and will be unveiled this September. One of the key points considered was maintaining the spirit of the RSHM as Sisters step back from traditional leadership roles. Keeping their light shining is vital, not only as it forms a crucial part of our heritage, but also because it has shaped our common Marymount language. As mentioned in this issue by our Valedictorian, Lisa Ichikawa, the language of Marymount is understood between and amongst every generation of students. Girls become fluent in our school vision “That all may have life” (John 10:10) and the RSHM School Goals during their time at Marymount as these form the backbone of their learning, both in Middle and High School. The IB Middle Years Programme and the Diploma fit seamlessly within the RSHM framework, with their shared emphasis on diversity, personal growth, and love of learning. Celebrating the mission will certainly be crucial to its continued success. We look forward to continuing to honour the RSHM culture and heritage with you, our community, by sharing the stories of our Sisters and Founders, and bringing our extensive Archives to life through social media and at Marymount events. Alumnae, parents, governors, and faculty also contribute philanthropically to ensure the success of students and the sustainability of the School. Whether by donating their time, talent or treasure, this support is vital to continue the work of the RSHM Sisters who built Marymount London into what it is today. We are incredibly heartened that our community stands with the School and the Sisters, ensuring that the RSHM spirit will continue to guide our school for generations to come.
