Recently I was taken to Maryborough Hospital by ambulance by two very nice young men. I was treated quickly and efficiently by Out Patients where I spent two days; later owing to circumstances being transferred to Hervey Bay where I was treated pleasantly and efficiently. Needing an urgent operation, all was organised quickly by a very nice young doctor. After the operation I spent quite some time in the Hospital, being in a room with three others. I was able to study at how the staff were treated and it was (the) patients themselves who were causing all sorts of unnecessary problems for the Onestaff.person was swearing at the nurses, using gutter language which even though told not to do so... many times kept up this performance.unnecessary

last flood so if you have the ability to do so, lock in a decent policy right now.

CRAIG WINTER & JAY FIELDING THE United Nations’ weather agency has recently forecast that the La Niña phenomenonweatherislikely to last until the end of 2022. With Maryborough still recovering from the double flood events earlier this year, there is likely to be stress around what to expect over the next couple of Frasermonths.Coast Mayor George Seymour said that it’s important that preparations are made in the lead-up to the storm season. “The first time you think about the risk of flooding shouldn’t be when the water is rising.” he said. “This year we have had two major floods and two minor floods of the Mary River. The community responded together with neighbours checking in on one another. I think it is in times of disaster that community spirit really shines Universitythrough.”ofthe Sunshine Coast flood historian Dr Margaret Cook says there is much we can learn from previous events. “Expect rain. Lots of rain. And take advantage of warnings to start preparing now,” says Dr Cook, whose research focus is the history, recovery and future of flooding in Australia. “Many households are still reeling from floods earlier this year; the clean-up continues with many houses unrepaired,” she Thesaid.Mary River in Maryborough reached major flood levels twice this year, in January and DrFebruary.Cooksays a triple La Nina has only happened three other times in the past 120 years, since national rainfalls were first “Thecollected.concern with three successive La Nina years is the increased likelihood of flood at a time when the region’s dams are largely full and rivers high,” she “Withsaid. a soaked catchment, the runoff rate will be extremely high.” La Nina occurs when the oceans of western South America are cool and the Southern Oscillation Index is positive, resulting in hadDrrainfallhigher-than-averageinAustralia.CooksaidMaryboroughexperiencedmajor flooding during previous triple La Nina cycles. The 1893 flood, the highest on record at 12.27m, came in a La Nina year, and the 1955 flood, the second highest on record at 11.23m, came in the middle of a triple La Nina cycle. However, the 1998 flood, also a triple La Nina flood, was only 6.4m in Maryborough.“Maryborough is right to be wary, but they don’t need to panic. It’s not a guarantee of a major flood.”

The Bureau Meteorology’sofLa Niña ALERT remains active. This means that the chance of La Niña forming in the coming months is at least 70%, around three times the normal likelihood of an event forming in any year. “A La Niña ALERT is not a guarantee that La Niña will occur, rather it is an indication that most of the typical precursors of an event are in place. La Niña conditions increase the chance of above average spring and summer rainfall in northern and eastern “BureauAustralia.climatologists will continue to closely monitor conditions in the tropical Pacific as well as model outlooks for further signs of La Niña re-emergence.”

“As a community we could be mobilising volunteers to help prepare. We need a flood army beforehand, rather than relying on the mud army afterwards to clean up the mess.”

3. Don’t panic buy. Stock up on long life milk and other essentials early. When people panic buy, it prevents anyone else from accessing those items and causes more stress.

Whilst there, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant and was said to have been the youngest sergeant to lead an attack on the peninsula. Soon after the landing, on 9 May 1915, he volunteered to lead a group of 45 men in the first assault on Quinn’s Post.
