MARTINEZ, Calif. – One arrest and the seizure of multiple weapons was made after gunfire broke out at a Shell Avenue residence in unincorporated Martinez. The gunfire came moments before local law enforcement was preparing to serve a warrant at the home. An investigation followed by the CASE (Contra Costa County Anti-Violence Support Effort) team at the residence in the 1300 block of Shell Avenue and officers

arrested Randy Pritchett, 26, of Martinez, at the residence. He was found in possession of ammunition, despite being prohibited from owning a firearm. Investigators also say the weapons were not properly registered and may be stolen. Pritchett, a parolee, is currently being held at the Martinez Detention Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail. Authorities also served a search warrant at the residence and three rifles and one shotgun were confiscated during the subsequent search.

Tuesday just before 6 p.m., CASE members were positioned around the corner from the Shell Avenue home when they heard a gunshot, which apparently happened in front of the residence where they were going to serve the search warrant. The officers immediately responded to the front of the home where they found a male victim suffering from a gunshot wound and another male who was suffering from stab wounds. Both victims were treated and taken ARREST: Page 3

Company investing in new strategy for Virginia Hills property Former Round Table Pizza location to undergo reconstruction By DAVID SCHOLZ Martinez Tribune MARTINEZ, Calif. – After seeing the Virginia Hills Shopping Center space formerly occupied by Round Table Pizza sit vacant for several years, Cordoza Properties Inc. is now investing $400,000 to reconfigure the space in hopes smaller spaces will spark renewed interest from prospective tenants.

The 5,000 square foot space at the western edge of the Alhambra Avenue shopping center is being broken up into four smaller spaces – two 1,200-square-foot spaces, and two 600-squarefoot spaces, according to Lou Lopez, a senior property manager with the firm. Lopez said the idea is to have a common hallway in the new design that would lead to the two smaller suites in the rear of the prop-

erty. There will be a brand new set of bathrooms as part of the improvements, too. The existing courtyard area that fronted the former Round Table Pizza operation is being maintained for a nice patio area. “This is a nice amenity for sitting if there was a smaller restaurant,’’ said Lopez, acknowledging the hope that a restaurant tenant may yet find this space desirPROPERTY: Page 3

Police Blotter By DANNY YOEONO Martinez Tribune The crime blotter is compiled from public record and is not confirmed by Martinez Police or any other party unless otherwise stated. Some accounts may be unfounded.

Sunday, June 12 Around 4 p.m., a mother and her daughter exchanged hits in a fight that occurred at the Lotus apartments on Alhambra Avenue. At 7:10 p.m., a man was walking around and screaming at the Goodyear Tire shop on Alhambra Avenue.

Eight minutes later, at the Safeway supermarket down the street, a man in a backpack was “yelling aggressively at people about sexual orientation.” Near 8 p.m., a neighborly confrontation about a loose dog turned south when one neighbor pushed the other up against her front door and told her to go back inside. He then left the scene in his Range Rover.

Monday, June 13 An Alhambra Avenue Quick Stop market was robbed of lotto tickets at gunpoint at 1:36 a.m.

ing with a non-existent person outside the Starbucks on Main Street. He later put away his knife and entered Starbucks for a cup of victory-coffee, I presume.

Tuesday, June 14 At 7:22 a.m., a cigarette and a jug of lighter fluid were found in the burn area of a small fire that took place on a patio on Mill Road. Near 9 a.m., a woman, alone in her Muir Lodge Motel room, stated someone was trying to kill her. That is some wake-up call they have there. A woman on the corner of Estudillo Street and Haven Street was yelling and swearing at 11:45 a.m. Probably yelling, “It’s lunchtime.” At 3:19 p.m., a man on Estudillo Street near the Campbell theater was asked by a stranger if he wanted to buy cocaine. Later that afternoon, a man flourished a 6 to 8 inch knife in an imaginary fight he was hav-

Faith Billy Graham's ‘My Answer'

Sunday, June 26

God has other plans for couples who can’t conceive By BILLY GRAHAM Tribune Content Agency Q: Our doctor just told us we’ll never have any children, and it’s about to break our hearts. Why would God do this to us? It seems so unfair, since we’ve always looked forward to being the kind of

loving family that children need today. – Mrs. T.McH. A: I’m sure many readers have had a similar experience, and they understand your heartache. I often think of Hannah in the Old Testament, who grieved for years because she was childless (until God

Calendar

answered her prayers and gave her Samuel – see 1 Samuel 1:10). But God understands your disappointment also – and that’s why you can turn in faith to Him for comfort, even if you can’t understand. God’s love for you has not changed, and even when circumstances

turn against us we can experience His peace if we know Christ. Never forget: He is “the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles” (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). No, I don’t know why God has not allowed you to have children. But I do know this: When God closes one door, He often opens another – and my prayer is that you will seek that door and in faith embrace it. For example, God may want you to explore the possibility of adoption. Every year countless children are put up for adoption who need exactly the kind of loving home you could provide. Esther, who courageously intervened to save the Jewish people from destruction, was adopted (see Esther 2:15). Above all, don’t let your disappointment grow into doubt or even anger toward God. Instead, turn to Christ and by faith commit your lives and your future into His

Jesus Christ is my Savior & Redeemer John 3:16 says: “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life” Do you ever feel peaceful when you pray? Do you feel grateful when you think of your blessings? When you sing a reverent song, do you feel close to Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ? These spiritual feelings are the beginning of your testimony. An important part of a testimony is to believe that Jesus Christ plays a central role in Heavenly Father’s plan for us. He was born to Mary. He “increased in wisdom and stature” (Luke 2:52). He was baptized as an example for us. He organized the Church, called 12 Apostles, and taught the gospel. He healed the sick and raised the dead. And He suffered for our sins, died, and was resurrected. Because of Jesus Christ, we will all be resurrected. Because of Him, we can repent and return to live with Him and Heavenly Father again. Your own testimony of the Savior will be strengthened as you learn about Him and read the testimonies of the prophets. I would like to share a poem with you that talks about the Savior. Jesus is my Savior, for He rescues me from me. I’ll try to explain just how to you. It’s very clear to see. Heavenly Father sent me here To learn to choose the right. I can’t get back to live with Him Unless I win the fight.

So Jesus said He’d come And be my Savior so I can try To be the best I can become. And when I try to change my ways – A better person be – I can succeed because of Christ Who gave His life for me.

Each day I have to make a choice. Some days I seem to choose The path that leads away from Christ, And that’s the way I lose.

I know that Jesus is my Savior because he died for my sins. I want to do all I can to follow his example and be worthy to live with him again someday.

But God knew that I’d need some help,
