Career Notes: Smooth swing with quick bat speed...younger brother of Victor Gomez...great glove at 1B but also sees time in left field. 2011: Played in 43 games - primarily in left field - and started in 36...batted .252 (30-for-119)...slugged .387 with four doubles and four home runs...boasted six multi-hit games and even strung together a six-game hit streak (3/12-3/19) where he went 7-for-18 (.300) with two home runs...drove in 21 runs and scored 16 more...recorded two outfield assists.
2011: Appeared in 13 games in first season back from surgery...held a 0.00 earned run average through his first three appearances back...went 2-2 with an earned run average of 8.31 for the season...pitched 13 innings, all out of the bullpen. 2010: Pitched in one game at Samford (2/19) before requiring season-ending surgery...received a medical redshirt.
2010: Emerged as the everyday first baseman...played in 51 games and made 34 starts...hit at an even .300 (39-for-130) clip...finished second on the team in doubles with 13...collected 19 RBI and scored 17 runs...seven multi-hit and three multi-RBI games...produced an eight-game hit streak (4/21-5/1)...during a six-game span went 10-for-21 (5/18-5/27)...went a perfect 3-for-3 against Memphis (4/3)...connected for his first collegiate homer vs. Coppin State (4/21).
2009: Made six appearances out of the bullpen...tossed 5.1 innings and recorded eight strikeouts...held opponents to a .167 batting average...held lefthanded batters hitless (0-for-7)...averaged 13.5 strikeouts per nine innings... fired an inning of relief with a strikeout in collegiate debut vs. Radford (2/27)... struck out the side vs. UAB (4/12)...pitched a perfect inning out of the pen with a pair of punch outs at No. 2 Rice (4/18).
High School: Four-year starter at La Salle HS...tallied a .385 batting average with four homers and 26 RBI senior year...three-time Miami Herald All-Miami Dade County honorable mention selection...set the school single-season ERA (1.24) record as a freshman in 2006...team won district title in 2007...named Athlete of the Year at La Salle HS.
High School: Was a 2007 all-state selection while at PikeView HS...was a two-time member of the Charlotte Megastars...played one summer season with Beckley Bash Post 32 squad...ranked 115 in the Perfect Game 2008 Class... registered a 3.3-3.5 GPA in high school...was a member of FCA, FCCLA, Pep, Natural Helpers and Environmental clubs.
Personal: Born Jan. 7, 1991...son of Nevada Alba and Victor Gomez...has one brother, Victor, who holds numerous Marshall baseball records and was drafted to the Atlanta Braves organization...majoring in exercise physiology.
