For Canadian entrepreneur Mark Morabito, “It’s not about the risk – it’s about the opportunity.” That’s the perspective that has guided him to success in a wide range of business sectors, from mining to finance. At first glance, this bold approach may seem surprising, given the fact that Mark Morabito started his career as corporate finance and securities lawyer, practicing in Toronto and later Vancouver. After eight years of hard work, he transitioned to the client side of the table. Since that key decision, he has been a founder, investor or key player in numerous public and private companies. His more than two decades of experience in business and capital markets has given him a depth of knowledge relating to junior mining, merchant banking and corporate development. Significantly, he has raised over a billion dollars over the course of his career. Mark Morabito has been the founder and principal driving force behind many resource development companies, two of which he led from initial start-up on the TSX Venture Exchange to full NYSE listings. At Alderon Iron Ore, his expertise as a savvy negotiator enabled the company to secure a $400 million agreement with HBIS Group, at the time China’s largest steel producer, entering their first investment transaction outside of China in the company’s history. Today, Mark Morabito serves as President and CEO of King & Bay West Merchant Bank. He is also founder Chairman of Intrepid Metals Corp., a company that is currently developing resource-rich mines in the Tombstone area of southeastern Arizona. In this role, he is guiding the Corral Copper and Silver project from acquisition of property rights to exploration and extraction. Mark Morabito spent his early years in southern Ontario and is now based in Vancouver. He earned his BA from Simon Fraser University and completed his J.D. at Western University’s Faculty of Law.
