Helping Ourselves to Better Help Our Customers and Community

– Nate L.
Subaru Loves to Care and Subaru and its retailers know this extends to our staff as much as our customers and local communities. Mark Miller Subaru recently held our annual Health and Wellness Fair to support the wellbeing of our staff, which included a variety of physical, mental, and financial health vendors and fundraising opportunities for our partner United Way of Salt Lake. The Fair takes place during our yearly employee payroll giving program with United Way, and for several years now our staff has achieved 100% of employee payroll giving to support the important work of United Way, donating more than $30,000 annually to help every child and family in Salt Lake succeed in school and in life. Our Wellness and Culture Departments welcomed vendors Intermountain Health Care Employee Assistance Program, DexaBody, Vasa Fitness, Wellcents Financial Services, Fit To Recover, Foot Zoning, The Joint Chiropractic, Planned Parenthood, MMS Cares (staff grant program), MMS Wellness, and United Way of Salt Lake. Each vendor talked to staff about their services and provided giveaway opportunities. ARUP Blood Services, a Utah-based blood bank, brought their mobile blood bus on-site for staff to donate and help save lives in our community, with a total of 27 units of blood donated by employees (each unit of blood has the potential to save up to three lives)! Who says you can’t have fun while taking care of yourself and others? As part of our Loves to Care activities, staff hosted some extra FUN-draising games, like paying $5 for a basketball free throw to win raffle tickets and a “pie in the face” game where staff donated for the chance to pie their fellow coworkers (in a fun and playful manner). No one was above a pie in the face for charity! Staff donated to nominate other staff members for a pie, and when that employee received $50 in donations, they got a face full of pie. Even Jeff Miller, Mark Miller Subaru CEO and General Manager, raised $150 to get three pies in his face! In total, staff raised an additional $2,200 for United Way of Salt Lake!! Nothing brings people to the party like free food, which is why the Mark Miller Subaru café catered a healthy and free lunch for all staff, with a spud (baked potato) bar and a side salad. With all this fun, it’s no wonder Mark Miller Subaru staff look forward to our annual Health and Wellness Fair. Employees learn how to take care of themselves so that we can take care of our customers and community. Together, we work every day to live the Subaru Loves to Care commitment!
