TRUST RESEARCH AND PROJECTS

THE PRISON REFORM TRUST’S GOAL IS TO IMPROVE CONDITIONS FOR PRISONERS AND THEIR FAMILIES WHILE WORKING TO REDUCE IMPRISONMENT RATES IN ENGLAND AND WALES.

To achieve this, the organisation inquires into the working of the system, informing staff, prisoners and the wider public, and influences Parliamentary officials and the UK government towards reform.
The Trust’s research programme works to provide prisoners with an opportunity to explain their experiences, as well as supporting Prison Service efforts to improve prisons. The Prison Reform Trust also provides evidencebased knowledge to inform government, policymakers, the academic community, the voluntary sector and the wider public.
Prison Reform Trust research projects currently explore a variety of different aspects of the criminal justice system, including the deployment of information technology in prisons and alternatives to institutionalisation. Reports published by the Trust explore issues such as the experiences of members of the prison population and how individuals who have been convicted of sexual offences are treated differently by employers.
