21 Up: New Generation (BBC1, 10.35pm)
The “Up” series started in 1964 with Seven Up!, a documentary about a group of seven-year-olds. The show revisited them every seven years: the latest instalment, 56 Up, aired in 2012. This revival follows the lives of a new generation of people from all walks of life. It’s these fascinating individuals who return for their latest instalment, shown in two parts on Monday and Tuesday. Subjects include John, a builder and BMX enthusiast from Slough, and Hackney student Orala, who is pursuing her passion for songwriting and performing. Meanwhile, Ryan from Bolton, who suffers from cerebral palsy, is studying for a sports degree while harbouring a dream of playing for the GB wheelchair rugby team. He’s come a long way since last we saw him, and he’s enjoying the newfound freedom of having a car.
