Private Rented Accommodation
What type of Accommodation are you looking for?
Private Rented Accommodation In this type of accommodation a number of students share a house, flat, or bedsit. You should have your own bedroom and share the kitchen, living room and bathroom with other students. These can range in size, and the number of people they can accommodate. Often you will have a joint contract, with all the other tenants, where you are jointly responsible for the rent, bills and for keeping the property clean and tidy. Occasionally landlords offer individual contracts where you are only responsible for your room and your share of the communal areas. Either way you are likely to have an Assured Short-hold Tenancy Agreement (AST). You should be aware of the implications of signing a contract before you commit yourself – please see ‘Contracts’ section.

Lodgings If you are on a strict budget, consider lodgings as these may be a cheaper option, but they do involve living in someone’s home. Generally, the kitchen, bathroom and common areas are shared, although this can vary along with the services provided. House rules and regimes can also vary considerably, so it’s best to talk to the resident owner about how the house works to see whether his/her lifestyle will be compatible with your own.
