TODAYS OPPOSITION

JAMIE CLAPHAM HEAD COACH

First of all we’d like to extend a warm welcome to the players, fans, staff and all associated with Melton Town Football Club for our first United Counties League fixture of the 2020/2021 season.

I would also like to say a massive thank you to our own fans for making me feel so welcome during my first few weeks at Loughborough University and I hope you enjoy watching the team tonight as we get our league campaign underway.

Over the last month we have had a busy pre-season schedule having played a variety of opposition and putting in some strong performances with highlights being a win against Waltham Abbey and Hashtag United as well as picking up a draw in our final pre-season fixture versus Sheffield United U23s. It has been a long time without fans which makes tonight an even greater occasion as we look to kick off our season. The performance team have been working extremely hard in preparation for the upcoming season and I have no doubt that this evening’s fixture will be a competitive encounter. We have a fantastic squad of players who continue to improve week in week out and I am very much looking forward to working with the team this year.

From what we can see Melton Town’s results have shown that they rightly deserve promotion and their results have gradually improved throughout preseason which suggests we will face a tough challenge today. With this being their first league fixture we are likely to have a very competitive game on our hands with both teams looking to get their first points on the board. Having looked at other teams in the league, it appears that every game will pose a different type of challenge but we will look forward to getting started and beginning this process.

I very much appreciate all your support and I hope you enjoy watching the team today!
